“There are three questions that should ask:” First question: ‘Do I give?’. Second: ‘How much do I give?’ Third question: ‘How do I give?’ Do I give as Jesus gives, with the caress of love, or as one who pays a tax? How do I give? '".

Its great he is saying this now, but he should have said this to the ‘group’ that most needed to hear this message back in Sept…??

Which “group” are you referring to?
Uh, Congress, owners of companies, anyone who has a job etc…

Anyone can see Greed runs rampant in the US, which is basically idolizing money, NO amount is ever enough, so on and so on…

The United States is tied with Myanmar as the #1 country for charitable giving in the world. The US was also the ONLY country to rank in the top 10 for all three types of giving behavior. So while there may be a lot of greed in this nation, there is also a lot of charitable giving going on.

As to getting on Congress- with an $18T deficit, the US could stand to put it’s own fiscal house in order before getting too much more generous with other nations right now or pretty soon we’ll be like Greece.

we also spend more on national defense than the top 10 defense spending nations combined. and we have a huge per capita carbon footprint and spread abortion and contrception to developing countries.

we’re not really any better than anyone else, id say we’re probably more evil than good as a nation.

I agree, the US is where a large part of the worlds problems stem, its the land of instant gratification, catering to all kinds of sexual fetishes, luxuries beyond what most other people could comprehend, people working 80+ hours a week is considered normal, we are the NUMBER ONE reason for the all deaths in the Mexican drug war, as its US dollars and US appetite fueling this war, corruption probably more rampant here than anywhere else…I could go on and on.

Not to mention, even the bible tells we dont get to heaven based on works, we could be the most helpful and generous person in the country, yet still end up in hell if we are sinning at the same time.

Your post reminds me of what my confessor says when I go into the confessional. He has, on numerous occasions, pointed out to me that in addition to focusing on my sins that I should also focus on what I’m doing right.

There seems to be a few posters- yourself included- who easily point out what you feel is wrong with the United States, but please don’t forget that there is a lot of things right with the United States as well. The person I was responding to had pointed out our greed, to which I responded by pointing out that we are the #1 most charitable nation in the world, which is a fact. Is there still greed? Sure, and that should be worked on. But give credit where it’s due. That includes your other points. Part of the reason we spend more on national defense than any other nation is because we spend a lot of time and money defending other nations. I imagine we would spend significantly less if we simply pulled our military out of every other nation and left them defenseless. We are leading the world in developing green energy technology, technology which will ultimately benefit the whole world. And while abortion and contraception are horrible sins, we have a strong pro-life movement in this nation that continues to fight the good fight.

The Bible also tells us Faith without works is dead. In other words, if your faith is real, you will perform good works because you will have a true desire to follow the will of God and to perform works of charity and mercy. If you claim faith, but do not perform good works, your faith isn’t real.

this is all very true, we have a strong pro-life movement but im focusing more on what our government has done under Obama i guess. we’re a mixed bag that which has more hope for being an overall force for good than say western europe, which has fallen into relativism and is post-christian.
