A media firestorm arose in Spain after a transsexual woman, who considers herself a man, asked to be the godfather of her nephew – leading a diocese’s bishop to turn to the Vatican for an answer.
After writing to the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith about the issue earlier this month, Bishop Rafael Zornoza Boy of Cádiz and Ceuta was told that since transsexual persons are not consistently living Church teaching, its “impossible” for them to fulfill their duties as a godparent.

This is good news in light of the fact that there are at least some people who are claiming that the Catholic Church has made no definitive statement regarding transsexuals.

I’m glad this issue is now on the surface. It had been a gray area too long.

Glad that the Vatican was crystal clear on this. Sad that the Vatican has to answer this question. Bishop should have handled it firmly with a clear “no” and explained why this woman cannot be a godfather (because she’s not a man) or a godmother (because she’s not living a Christian lifestyle).

The Pope’s been pretty clear on his views of Gender Theory.

I am happy for the Holy See’s intervention here. Why? Because if the local ordinary had simply denied it as an exercise of his own power, it would’ve been just another “anti-gay” clergyman getting in the way of what homosexualists want, and might have even prompted some “diocese-shopping” on their behalf. But with a clear answer from Rome, this has the stamp of approval from the “Who-Am-I-To-Judge” Pontiff, without recourse or appeal to anyone higher.

Roma locuta est, causa finita est!

Actually they can still appeal to the Pope.
