It’s the same as if I went to my dad and called him “John” Instead… He’d naturally yell at me “it’s Dad not John!” and has on several occasions.
I also called my departed father Dad. If in anger, Icalled him “Buzz” I would have been justly chastised. For his 60th birthday, I roasted my father with great respect of course, but I called him Buzz because all 200 guests had someone else they called Dad.
With the use of God’s name, the Blashemy is not in the use of the name but how it is used.
I’ve always been uncomfortable with the use of that name. There was a popular song many years ago called “El Shadai” as well. These things just seemed disrespectful and wrong. I’m glad the Church is speaking on this issu
El Shaddai = God Almighty.
Now this name of God I have heard misused in anger with no prayer intended what soever. If the Vatican’s aim is to stamp out the abuse of God’s name, it should be this one!!! However, in the beautiful manner in which it was used in the song, not being able to pray using this name would be the crime.
