"Fri Nov 28, 2008:PARIS (Reuters) - A senior Vatican cardinal has thanked Muslims for bringing God back into the public sphere in Europe and said believers of different faiths had no option but to engage in interreligious dialogue. Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, head of the Catholic Church’s department for interfaith contacts, said religion was now talked and written about more than ever before in today’s Europe.
“It’s thanks to the Muslims,” he said in a speech printed in Friday’s L’Osservatore Romano, the official daily of the Vatican. “Muslims, having become a significant minority in Europe, were the ones who demanded space for God in society.”
He should be thanking Muslims or thanking God for that , I mean if I’m lost in the desert and an atheist have found me and saved me, then should I thank him or thank God because He sent him to me in one way or another?

It makes more sense if you understand the state of Eurpoean faith. Eroupe as a whole over the last 300 years has, at best, become agnostic. God has been all but forgotten publically. Muslims will not hide their faith, so God is public again.

Besides, he can’t thank God for Muslims. They would love that for their propaganda machines

The previous poster is right.

The Cardinal is thanking the Muslims for causing us to think about religion in general. They are causing Europeans to stop and consider their beliefs, wereas before, the vast majority of people had all but forgotten about God, or any god nevermind the true Christian Lord.

Cardinal Tauran is simply echoing a common sentiment in Europe that has become agnostic/atheistic. When God sends your enemy knocking at your doorstep, you may start wondering what’s next and start thinking of what God might do to remind you of ‘something’ which you can only vaguely recall.

Centuries ago, God sent Attila whom some called ‘The Scourge of God’. We may be seeing a few of them now.

Everyone in not just Europe but also the rest of the world should indeed be thanking God for sending Muslims to teach them about Islam and thereby enable them to save their own souls.

Thats not what he is saying thank you for and you well know that.

I believe that only through Lord Jesus souls will be saved.

if a person saves my dear one from drowning , surely I will thank him/her & will show my gratatitude to God for sending that person at the right time.

I read long ago that a Christian priest/pastor or …(?? forgot now ) wrote how impressed he was to see Muslims offer thier salat ( ritual prayers ) when it’s time to pray ; they don’t hesitate to do that if they are at airport or inside the plane or elsewhere . He asked Chrisitians not to feel shy / embarassed to show their faith .

This is surely one of your more sensible posts in a long time.

Many Muslims have also commended on Christian laity and clergy for their charitable works towards people of all races and religions, including Muslims. Take for example, Mother Teresa (One of my favourite Catholic heroines). It didn’t matter to her if you were Atheist, Agnostic, Hindu, Christian or Muslim. She helped everyone in need, regardless of their race or colour. People were so awestruck by her humility and grace that led many to convert to Catholicism. She didn’t even have to proselytize, she brought people to God by mere Christian example.

sure ; here is one example 🙂

US Church Hosts Muslim Worshippers

A church in the north-central US state of Wisconsin is hosting Muslim worshippers to perform prayers twice a day, reported the Journal Sentinel on Saturday, November 29.

“We’re very grateful to the church,” said local Muslim leader Ajaz Qhavi.

The Faith Presbyterian Church in Franklin city in southern Wisconsin has allowed Muslims to perform prayers five days a week.

Since last week, Muslims have gathered at the Church’s Sunday school space to perform the Fajr (Dawn) and Isha (night) prayers.

The Islamic Center of Milwaukee pays a nominal rental fee to cover church expenses.

The move was taken as there are no close mosques for Muslims to perform their prayers.

… Mother Teresa (One of my favourite Catholic heroines).
Is she a Saint now ? Do u pray to her directly ?

She is in the process of canonization. She has already been beautified as ‘Blessed Teresa of Calcutta’ by the late Pope John Paul II. I do look upon her as my intecessor and i do think of her fondly and how i should try and emulate her works every given chance. There are also Muslims in India who honour her during their Friday prayers.

:newidea: Thank you…

Since Mahometans do not believe in the real god, how can they possibly have returned God to Europe?

ISA AKBAR!

I bear witness there is NO GOD but Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and Jesus is God Incarnate risen from the dead!**

Bpbasilphx…that’s an interesting tag-line you’ve got there. I like it. La illaha ilallaah, wa ismuhu Yesuaa, AL-MASIH! 👍

Anyway, I can see why the Vatican would say this. Maybe Muslims have done what the Vatican cannot do anymore in Europe due to its decreased power since the Reformation? I’m just speculating, since I’m not European, but from what friends of mine from there (from Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox nations) say, God is an afterthought for many people. It’s a very sad and distressing situation, and maybe Muslims can provide a good example that faith is not something only for old people.

Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on how you view things), I do not wonder why so many westerners are apparently coming to Islam. I won’t thank Muslims for following false doctrines, but I do accept the challenge that they present once more to the Christian world. We have been here before, and by the grace of God we can use the current situation in the “post-religious” western democratic societies to strengthen our communities and invite those who have dismissed the very concept of God back to Christ.

can u explain how they do that ? Muslim men normally go to mosque at Friday noon. Imam offers prayer for her salvation ?

It is inherent for everyone to compete, anyone has their own mild tendencies to resist a dogma that is totally different from what they were originally taught and practiced.

Europe is Christian land and it will stick to its culture. It is in a subconscious state right now but the juggernaut is beginning to wake up.

Thank God for the enemies at the Gates.

I was told the Indian Muslims offer prayers in the form of Nafl Sa’lah to guarantee her salvation.

I actully agree with you! I have never been so close to my Catholicism since I have asked ‘why do they hate us?’ after 9/11 - and found out - and now try to warn others of islam!!

I have read my own Bible more since 9/11 including all the books on islam, including the koran and hadiths. In fact, if one wants to find God - read those texts - any sane person would be revolted! They are full of hatred, greed, lust,… and a whole lot more of what I was taught were the 7 deadly sins. mohammed broke so many commandments that is why he redefined sin and why muslims say he is the perfect man. Of course he is the perfect man because in his redefinition of sin - he made himself that way!

There are so many differences in islam between Christianity and Judaism that their claim they are an extension of our religions is nonsense if one would crack open a koran and read it.
  • Creation differs
  • the story of Adam and Eve differs
  • stories of Moses and Abraham differ
  • stories of Jesus differs
  • they believe in predestination
  • they believe that good works save them (I don’t know how if they are predestined and no one tells them how many good works is sufficient or if they do enough in their life time). Ironic too since Christian nations are known for their charity and NOT muslim nations. And since 9/11 our government has shut down more ‘muslim charities’ funneling money to jihadists (which that is what muslim charity in the koran is all about - supporting jihadists and their families)
Here is a very telling difference in allah and mohammed: According to Islamic theology, Muslims who annoy Allah and Muhammad are cursed:
"Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment." (The Qur’an: 033.057)

Also the very important fact that mohammed does not meet any of the requirements of being a prophet.
  • he changed the original messages of the Bible
  • Here are warnings from just one of the books of the New Testament:
    Mat 7
15 'Beware of false prophets who come to you disguised as sheep but underneath are ravenous wolves.
16 You will be able to tell them by their fruits. Can people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
17 In the same way, a sound tree produces good fruit but a rotten tree bad fruit.
18 A sound tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a rotten tree bear good fruit.
19 Any tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown on the fire.
20 I repeat, you will be able to tell them by their fruits.
mohammed just redefining sin - basically replacing the 10 Commandments so he could carry on his killing, taking other’s wives (his stepson’s wife), stealing, etc that should be the first warning that mohammed is not a prophet. He came and changed that very basic teaching - the 10 Commandments.
