At this time, it appears to be just speculation (or wishful thinking). Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see what the new pope does. Interesting read, though. Thanks for the link.

You’re welcome.

I tend to question the very secular Washington Post. Before accepting this artilce as purely factual, I would first question the stance of the Washington Post towards the current White House Administration and its relationship with the Vatican. Trusting the Washinton Post should be handled like you would a cactus…

I’ve read similar articles in Frontpagemag.com, so it seems to be part of a trend.

I would just be careful…the other times Catholics and Muslims clashed in history have resulted in horrendous consequences. I don’t doubt that there is some general interest in confronting Islam, but it should be of great concern to everyone. The number of Muslims in the world is roughly equal to the number of Catholics in the world. Can you imagine a Holy War consisting of 1 billion combatants on each side? Kinda scary if you think about it…

I see your point that it could be a huge confrontation. I think that religious freedom in the countries that have the bulk of Islamic people would result in conversions to Christianity. Islam can’t last like this forever because simple freedom in a secular world is better then this false religion. The people in the Middle East want TV and blue jeans. They see what they lack and it can’t last forever. If the Islamic world ever tried to hit us on a military level they would be plowed under. If they could challenge us on a military level they would be here now.

I don’t think it is a ‘bad’ idea, but if it is the direction the Vatican takes, I just hope they are careful about it…

I don’t think Vatican will do this. Islam isn’t much of a threat. however I do think Vatican probably will take harder line on secularism which is the enemy of faith.

Islam is not a threat!!! What planet are you living on? They’ve been a threat to us since they swept out of Arabia and marched all the way up to Tours, France where they were defeated in 711. Not a threat? How far did the Ottomans get into Austria? What about the Battle of Lepanto? Not a threat? Sheesh! Deus Volt I say.

The Vatican cannot make any decisions about the direction it will take vis-a-vis Islam until a new pope has been elected.

They need to take a harder line on a lot of things such as sex abuse, liturgical abuse, heretical priest and bishops, and heretical and indifferent lay people too.

I think that strenghten the doctrine and being against secularism is the best vacuum with islam, why? do you think that a country like Saudi Arabia in a christian western must be respected and defended, or countries like USA have fear to put a church in his embassy in Saudi Arabia, people including many catholics are dhirmis because we don´t have a strong faith and we don´t want to be martyrs, I am the first, I say, and this is the problem, it´s a problem of faith and facts

Franze: I really had to read your post over and over to understand what I think you were trying to say. I applaud your posting, however. I wouldn’t think about posting on a Spanish site. I can read Spanish but for me to think and compose in Spanish? Nunca! Yo leo espanol mas que hablo espanol.
