What do you think of the children’s program “veggie tales”? Thanks!

Love, love, love Veggie Tales! I miss them now that my daughter is too old for their programs.

I think that it is fantastic and my son loves the videos and songs.

I like it but in small doses. I like my shows that treat the children like adults.

You mean teach your children about adults?

I don’t think any show should treat them LIKE adults… they aren’t adults. Don’t want adult content in there. 😃

Love veggie tales. all my children grew up watching them. Much rather have them watch veggie tales then sesame street which promotes the gay agenda, or anything secular

It was created (in part) by someone who attended my alma mater, Luther College. LC is known for it’s impressive music program (<60% of the students on campus take part!), so the music is bound to stick with you and your kids!

My only criticism is that It tends to use the inclusive “God-speak” instead of being more forward about Jesus, making it sometimes seem to be ‘generally moralistic’ rather than overtly Christian… but what can we expect from a show made for little ones? So long as parents do their duty, VeggieTales can reinforce the child’s positive Christian upbringing.

I grew up with the show (well, the tail end of my adolescence, anyway). My kiddos will do the same, provided the VCR still works…

It’s great! I still don’t mind watching it every now and then. They’re genuinely funny, fairly smart, and never objectionable. And there is a cucumber that sings silly songs! What’s not to love? 😃

Love my veggies! Kids watch them, my husband sings their songs, I get to cook dinner undisturbed. And they do teach good lessons and Bible stories.

On 2 or 3 occasions, veggies’ dialogue sounded anti semitic to me. I let the first one go, thinking I heard incorrectly, but 2 -3 times? I cannot back this up; I just remember my jaw dropping…Otherwise, yeah, it could be a bit ‘smarter’ for the same age group;
maybe this is what was meant by 'treating the kids a bit more like adults; certainly not adult material. That would be just wrong. Like ant-semitic dialogue…

I liked it more when they were starting out and doing shows about stories from the Bible, but even the newer stuff that are general moralistic are still nice.

I like the message of some, others not much. My younger child is nearly 8, so our veggie tales days are behind us (although I actually keep a couple for me:blush:)

Don’t worry about it. A couple of years ago, for MY birthday, we went to the movies to see a Veggie Tales movie. My husband and our teen aged son went with me. 😛

I watched almost every video they have and never heard anything slightly antisemetic. I find their programs entertaining to children and adults. The topics are basic moral topics, so nothing offensive to Catholics, though many themes are Christian (as opposed to generally moral).

My niece watched some of the ones they did that were more generic cartoon type plots, but taught kids not to lie.

And there was another I saw somewhere else (can’t remember) that told the story of Esther and Mordecai. I thought it was odd they changed some of the elements of the story, but it was mostly to make it appropriate for young children. I guess I can understand that. Seems like an okay show for kids, overall.

Let’s see, that would be the assassination by cake. Then Mordacai went to Esther’s for pizza. Mordacai wasn’t killed but sent to the island of perpetual tickling.

We now own over half the collection. We have about 10 episodes to go. All 7 of us, even the teenagers, love the show. 🙂

My kids watch veggie tales. My kids watch Sesame Street. They learn a great deal from both and enjoy both. I have NEVER seen Sesame Street promote the “gay agenda”. They don’t talk about sexual orientation. They teach, and they use a diverse group of people to do it. There are many different people in the world and eventually your children will have to interact with them.

I’ve been a veggie fan from the beginning, but I have to say that I MUCH prefer the first ten years, to the later stuff. When Phil Vischer stopped doing the writing the quality plummeted.
