This seems so silly, but for those of you who do wear a veil, how do you dress with it? I really feel called to wear one during exposition, but last year it was always jeans and a shirt b/c I go to class right after (exposition/benediction/lauds/class). I don’t feel that that is appropriate, but what does one wear? I feel so called to wear one, but I’ve never seen but 1 or 2 people wear one before, and all older- I’m a teenager in college! So I’d like to know how ya’ll dress :). Would a skirt and shirt be fine- nothing dressy, just a long skirt and shirt, or what?

Interesting question.

When I began wearing the veil I considered (and still do) the way I dressed. I used to wear jeans to Mass more often than not, or in the summer, shorts.

I was embarassed then, too.

Since I began wearing a headcovering, I have put a lot more thought into what I have worn. However, that said, I have also attended Mass when I didn’t expect to, such as on a Saturday night when I had planned to go on Sunday, and no matter what I’ve worn, I wore the veil.

(The veil is kept in my purse).

If I go into adoration on a weekday on my lunch break, I will veil, and my work clothing usually consists of Dockers and a polo shirt or maybe a fleece.

There is a couple at my parish, a girl of about 21 and her boyfriend who both often lead the rosary, and I have seen her in the chapel in sweats, but the veil is there faitfully.

There have been times when I have felt a need to go to the adoration chapel to pray, and even though I felt ridiculous as I was wearing ratty shorts, I could not enter withotu the veil because I felt like I would insult him further if I didn’t cover my head.

Now, keep in mind, I’ll stil enter if my veil is not with me! It’s about worshiping God, not a piece of cloth! But no matter what I’m wearing, I feel ashamed without it.

So in short, my veil has caused me to dress better for Mass in general, but even if I am dressed for work and attending Mass, or dropping in for a friendly Hello to our Savior, the veil goes on.

It’s not about what other people think…it’s about our own personal relationship with God.

That’s an interesting comment.

I am very conciencious(sp?) of how I dress in general (being an occasion of sin for another, and all that), and I don’t feel I dress immodestly at Church, or in general at all. We have daily mass at 5:30, and many, many of us come from class, so there are a lot of jeans and t-shirts. I’ve never seen short-shorts, and only see 1-2 people wearing the longer ones (inch? above knee, if that) at mass, and that is out of about the 70-100 people who attend.

Although I know just because everyone else is doing somethign does mean it is correct, I don’t feel I am dressing immodestly. For me, I have to heave at least knee-length whatever, and t-shirt type sleeves, or I wear the trusty grey sweater, LOL.

I really feel called to wear it, and so I would like to try wearing one beginning this year for anytime I am in exposition. If that ‘works for me’ so to speak, and seems to help my spiritual life (I spend lots of time in there, I mean, Gods there! why not?), I will eventually move toward wearing it at mass as well. It just isn’t the norm here at all, and I know no one will say anything- everyone is sooo wonderful, incredibly orthodox, etc, but I’ll still feel wayyyy out of place. Sigh.

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut, I appreciated it- esp the part about the sweats, lol!

I assume that what you mean by a veil is a formal, lacy mantilla. . . why not try a scarf, hat, or some other headcovering more in keeping with your modest, but informal attire?

Your school mandates the wearing of jeans and a shirt for attending class?
