Veil on head...and old jeans?

Ok, this isn’t a question/debate about wearing a head covering in church. So do me a huge favor and please don’t start a debate about it in this thread! 🙂 I just want to ask for folks’ opinions about my quandry:
I have a lovely ivory lace manatilla (sp?) that I’d like to wear to Mass but…basically all I own for clothes are two pairs of old jeans and some uh…not so fancy shirts. (Oh yeah, and old scruffy shoes.)
I really want to wear the manatilla but at the same time I don’t want to look utterly stupid. Would it be offensive to wear such a nice fancy thing on my head and then scruffy old clothes???

How dare you downgrade veils! I will defend and encourage any young lady who decides to wear one!

On a serious note… is this really a question? I think you’re good. scruffy old clothes is the way to go, if you are lacking in something better.

Simple enough… right?
 
I used to see an older lady at Daily Mass who always wore jeans and a cream-color lace mantilla. I thought she looked sort of sweet. 🙂

I wouldn’t worry about it; just go for it!

If you want to wear the veil, then you will have to do it with the scruffy clothes. Inless you have another choice! If it is that big of a deal… don’t wear the veil and just go in the scruffy clothes. 👍

Wear what you want and don’t worry about it. If you are clothed in Christ, you are well dressed.

I am a chapel cap wearer. So I have to ask, why do you want to wear it?
Is it a fashion statement or something else?
 
Go ahead and wear your lace! 👍 You may think your clothes are “scruffy”, but others may not. Besides, the lace could make your outfits a bit more “dressy” 😉 .

I would wear more tie-backs with jeans (triangle hankerchief-things), and keep mantilla for dressy outfit. I’m no expert though!!!
 
If you feel called to wear the mantilla, wear it. Don’t stress over looking strangely dressed.
I saw a young woman in jeans wearing a beautiful lace mantilla, and didn’t give it a second thought.
 
If you live in Alaska, don’t you have big heavy coats that you wear over your jeans anyway? 😃
 
Wear a mantilla or large scarf, which covers your hair more. One of the reasons for wearing something on your head is to COVER your head, so that your hair is seen as little as possible.

As for the old jeans, if that is what you have, by all means go to Mass, but maybe there are some nice cheap skirts at Goodwill. Just a thought.

I would have to say that definitely go with the veil, but skip the jeans. Jeans are inappropriate for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

There should be many fine clothes at Goodwill for just a couple bucks. I know for a fact that many companies donate factory seconds, which are clothes missing a stitch or have some other minor imperfection that only the most anal person would notice.
