I have been told the point of the veil for the women is so that men do not only see her sexual side and so they do not tempt men!
And to also show the womens intelectual side!

My question is,why doesn’t a muslim man also cover himself up for the same reasons, they say the veil isn’t sexist, but the sexist part is that only the women have to cover themselves?

Anyone?

Muslim men also have restrictions on the clothing they wear and the parts of their bodies they can expose. The restrictions are different for men and women, for obvious reasons.

Nothing sexist here…men cover and women cover

I work in a town with a large Muslim population. I always see Muslim women and theyre young daughters in incredibly heavy clothing in the middle of summer. However, their sons are dressed in American clothing, in shorts and t-shirts. I know in most Muslim countires men are fairly covered up, but I dont see that here and it seems unfair. I also notice conservative Christians being that way. The women who wear the long dresses with no skin showing while the boys wear neat but fairly “modern” clothing that looks much more comfortable.

Oh yes…and I have a Muslim friend. Apparently, women wear the veils and men dont because their hair is considered sexy and cant be seen by other men.

i have a great deal of respect for Muslim women’s modesty. granted, it’s a little on the extreme side (in terms of our modern western culture). but i wish more christian girls would think about covering some more skin.

Do you think this is sufficient? I say it’s too revealing myself.
If you look closely, you can even see her eyes behind that blue veil for crying out loud!

A woman’s hair is a lot sexier than a man’s…thats probably why CVS donates 2 aisles to women’s hair…and a total of 3 products for a man’s hair.

In any case, Muslim women cover because God has told them to…their is a lot of wisdom behind it and we trust God to tell us what is right for us.

Believe it or not, some women CHOOSE to dress like that. I have a friend who converted from Christianity and now fully covers her entire body including her face (although she doesnt cover her eyes). SHe’s a college educated young woman and has chosen not to let any man see one inch of her…except her husband ofcourse.

One time i actually teased her and said “sister, i gotta tell you, your dress is rather immodest, i can see your eyes” lol…she laughed and said “inshAllah (God willing)” I was only joking with her! I dont cover my face…but subhanAllah

I personally dont like it when someone forces a woman to dress like that, because then the external modesty is there…but the internal one is lost. But it is a lot better than bunch of naked girls walking around. In all honesty, you cant distinguish a prostitue from a non-prostitute these days…it really is sad.

And God knows best

I agree with you there, but as long as I steer clear of nudist colonies I don’t think I’ll have to worry too much about that! 👍

have you been on a college campus lately? heck, have you been to Mass? half-naked is everywhere.

btw, I wasn’t saying that I want Christian girls to cover themselves as in the picture you posted. I was merely saying that I respect and admire that Islam places a lot of emphasis on modesty. Is it too much emphasis, to the point of legalism? I think it probably is. But I’m not Muslim; they may not see it that way.

I simply wish Christian girls would think more about modesty. It’s truly a lost virtue in our day.

all this stuff about women covering because they’re sexier or whatnot is conjecture based upon people’s rationalisation of the issue.

the simple fact of the matter is that Allah commanded that muslim women cover themselves in order to be recognised as free, believing women and not be annoyed by others. (see 33:59)
