Here’s a question for those who veil at Mass

I know there’s the custom to wear black on Good Friday… I’m trying to decide if I should still wear the white veil (if I’m able to go to the Latin Mass) or if I should wear a darker head covering. Any thoughts?

What color veil you choose to wear at Mass or on Good Friday is irrelevant. Only the priest is required to wear black vestments. In addition, there is no Mass on Good Friday. There is usually the Solemn Stations of the Cross (generally in the afternoon or early evening), confession, and other devotions. Distribution of Holy Communion is also a part of the Good Friday liturgy, but Mass is not said during the Holy Triduum.

I have noticed that women do wear more somber colors at the Good Friday service, but I think this is more of a fashion statement than theology. Personally, I wear a hat, I probably will wear something in black or violet that day, but again, it’s more of a fashion thing.

Black is the traditional color of mourning. Prior to Vatican II, many women wore black clothing and veils to commemorate mourning of our Lord’s Passion and death. Some people still prefer to wear black, but it is not mandatory. Of course, we don’t wear our finest during the Sacred Liturgies of the Holy Triduum–that is reserved for Easter!

good Friday is met to be sad occasion oven tho we know we know that on Easter vigil the Lords rise from the dead.

Thanks for the replies! yes I meant liturgy not Mass, sorry!! I keep making that mistake lol…

I don’t actually know yet if there would be the liturgy according to the 1962 missal, I just realized it might be according to the new missal, I need to contact them and ask.

My wife wears black most of the time but on Easter Day Mass she plans on wearing white.

I very much admire women who wear the mantilla. It makes a pious personal statement IMO. Kudos to you ladies who adopted the practice.
