Veils or Mantillas

I am very traditional. I always wear my mantilla for Mass and Adoration even though with the exception of Christmas Eve/Day and Easter, I am often the only one who does so. Those who don’t know my name refer to me as “the girl in the mantilla.”

Why do I wear it even though most women don’t anymore? It helps me feel closer to Jesus. It reminds me that I am His handmaid. It reminds me to be humble. It helps me feel centered.

Also, wearing it reminds me of our beloved late priest whose Irish eyes lit up whenever He saw me wearing it. Like TheLittleLady’s priest, he wished more women in our parish wore them.

I never worry about standing out or drawing attention to myself. That’s not why I do it. But if people do see me wearing my mantilla, may God use the sight of it for His glory.
