Hey everyone, I already posted this in the “Ask an Apologist” section, but since I seem to have pretty bad luck in getting questions answered there (
), I thought I would post it here too and see what everyone thinks
Basically, as a Protestant, I was taught that ALL sin, no matter how small, merit eternal punishment for those who have not “accepted Jesus as their Savior.” But I’ve read on Catholic apologist sites that the Church says venial sins are not worthy of eternal damnation.
So my question is: Can someone who is unbaptized be forgiven of their venial sins and admitted to Heaven, if they have not ever committed any mortal sin?
The question is hypothetical - I know how ridiculous it sounds to suggest that someone could go their whole life and not commit at least one mortal sin… but still, I’m curious what the theological answer would be
Thanks!
