I remember some sins from the past with grave matter however at that time I didn’t know that these are sins (or that the sins are mortal). Do I have to confess those sins or are they like other venial sins?

If at your last confession, you were fully and sincerely sorry for all your past sins, REMEMBERED or FORGOTTEN then they are forgiven! I think it is set up that way to keep people from worrying about distant, half forgotten things. Some may disagree, but from what I know, you are ok.

If I happen to remember a sin from the past that I haven’t mentioned in confession, and I know there may be grave matter involved but I didn’t know it was a sin or not sure if mortal or not, I just confess it and tell the priest that at the time I wasn’t aware that was a mortal sin or a sin at all. Assuming I’ve repented of it, and I’m not planning to do it again, he then absolves me and it’s gone. The end.

Speak with your confessor about the definitions and terms of the various words you are writing about.

They are like other venial sins. You don’t have to confess them unless you desire to do so. (I suggest that you do, it’s good for humility.)

Thank you,
That means that I can recieve the eucharist and the sins will be forgiven? Because I already talked to my priest about my scrupulosity and he told me that I should forget all the past sins because at that time I didnt know these were sins. But what if I knew that it is sinful but didnt know that this sin is mortal or didnt even know what “mortal sin“ means?

If you struggle with scrupulosity, it is good that you are aware of it and are following your priest’s direction.

I advise that you continue to follow his direction, and don’t worry too much about such past sins as you describe. If you wish to be sure, go ahead and bring it up at your next confession:

“Father, I remembered some sins from my past which, at the time, I did not know were mortally sinful, but now I do know they were grave matter. Should I confess them to you right now?”

Just follow the direction of your priest and rest your mind on these matters.

Why are people here saying they are venial sins so no need to confess. Nobody here can tell you that.
Go to Confession. Your priest is the only one who can say.
Never let anyone say that you should not go to Confession.

Strictly speaking, only actual mortal sins committed since your last good confession need to be confessed for the sake of salvation. But it is wise and salutary to confess all sins with grave matter, as it is difficult to judge whether one had full knowledge and full deliberation, which would make the objectively grave sin an actual mortal sin.

If you suffer from scrupulosity it is counterproductive to be relitigating here.
You need to follow your priest’s advice and not second guess here…this itself is being scrupulous and is not helpful to you.

Good luck.

A priest does not have miraculous powers that enable him to identify grave personal sin versus less grave personal sin.
He can of course help a penitent decide whether he engaged in grave matter or not.
Then the penitent can reflect on his degree of culpability.

However the poster has already identified grave matter.

But as I say, being scrupulous he is acting very poorly by relitigating things here.
He needs to regularly take counsel from his priest and not question it here.
