Verse before gospel not in liturgy

We attended the “folk Mass” today and the cantor sung a very long hymn (just under 5mn) before the Gospel reading. It was not the verse in the missal. I am wondering if this is “allowed”? And if so where she could’ve pulled it from? I’d like to know what it was. To be honest I couldn’t make out most of the words.
 
Was the “hymn” in Latin? If so it was likely the very long tract “Qui habitat”, basically most of Psalm 90(91). That is licit, it’s in the Graduale Romanum.

It could be that it was a vernacular setting of that tract, if it was in the vernacular.
 
Thank you! It was not sung in Latin. I looked up Psalm 90(91) and seems like that could be it.

Why would you think something that happens at Mass would not be allowed?
 
Singing the Psalm is normal I believe. Some Masses also have a Gradual Hymn before the Gospel, though this would usually be more traditional forms of the liturgy (e.g. Tridentine, Ordinariate Use, have heard in the NO for instance at an Oratory).
