Very Important! Problems in my church!

My church(Catholic) has recently had a many problems, mostly including tepid faith and not full teaching of the Catholic church. Even coming from CCE class I am appalled. They taught the ‘left behind’ theory, and the students knew next to nothing about Church teaching or even the Holy Trinty! The priest consults lay people to make desicions I believe he should be making(ex. we recently offered to provide some Cds from Lighthouse Catholic Media and the priest said he’d talk to lay person…I have yet to hear his answer and we asked about 2/3 weeks ago). I am wandering what I should do to change the way my church is heading and any help is much appreciated! Thank you and God bless! :blessyou:
 
Hi Aurel. Having similar problems in our parish. Pastor publicly endorsed “gay marriage” in the newspaper. We’re in the process of raising $$$ for a remodel of the church and now I feel wife and I must reneg. on our pledge (many thousands of dollars). Not pretty. Sorry to say that we’re just going to leave the parish for an authentic Roman Catholic parish. It is a cut and run, I know. But the parish council, the parishoners, everyone has been silent on the whole thing and we feel like strangers because we think and act like Catholics.

are you speaking of the faith of the pastor, the parishioners, or the CCE teachers and students? Are you in a position to know the depth of their faith and to judge it? Are you part of CCE and familiar with the teaching or relying on reports of some students (some of whom may not even attend regularly)? Did the incidents of bad teaching represent a one-time lapse or one teacher, or are they part of the approved curriculum? Do you mean the pastor is not presenting Catholic teaching, or actually teaching contrary to Catholic doctrine from the pulpit, or do you mean there is a problem with CCE?

What is the “left behind” theory?
 
I am in RCIA and last Aug,my Parish gave everyone starting the program a brand new NAB Bible.My Parish also offers a Bible study one eve a week.The Bible study is not something that is very visable,but it is in the weekly bulletin.I have not yet attended the weekly Bible study as I am stiil in RCIA,but its nice to know I have a continuing aid after Easter.I have just recently subscribed to the totally free,Catholic home study service.

My point is,I am making an effort to learn and keep learning about my Faith,the Church and the Lord,now and after RCIA ends.Maybe this is the wrong way to look at it,but I think some of the responsibility rests on you.First find out if there is any kind of classes in your Parish or one close by.If not and you feel your Parish needs some kind of class,why not talk to your Deacon or Paster and see if you can get one started?God Bless.

I am speaking of the faith of many of the parish, mostly teenagers, but am in no position to judge the faith of the pastor.I do know that he does not ardently profess the faith. Concerning the teenagers, I know most of them and their relative faith, and
most of them do not profess it well. I am part of the CCE class and am familiar with the teachings. The problems has happened a few times, only majorly about once.The pastor does not present the Catholic faith well (i.e. its not the faith in its fullest form) and there is a definite problem with the CCE.

I’ve been criticized as often as I mentioned it, but I left my parish with notification of the parish priest (40 yr +).

He was plainly teaching his own version of the faith, and stepping over the teaching of the Catechism. He personally told me that he wouldn’t allow a Bible reading and discussion group in the parish because he said it was not in the common good to permit it. Although he did permit and encourage casino gambling trips and card parties in the parish.

The fact is, I have found other priests and lay pastoral leaders who are skeptical and critical of common church teaching and practices.

So, it’s not just one parish, there is widespread sentiment towards do-it-yourself religion in the local parishes, and I, too, had that same thought, that I will attend Mass again when I find a “real” Catholic Church parish.

When I was growing up and when I was a younger adult, I didn’t have any difficulty putting trust in a Catholic parish anyplace. But, nowadays, it seems you have to take a look at what the people really believe.

I’ll finish this way: if I wanted to attend a protestant church, there’s plenty around here for me to choose from. And, I will not attend a protestant church masquerading as a Catholic church.

I think that aurel is referring to the so-called “rapture.” If I were you, aurel, I’d write a letter to your bishop. This is outrageous. :eek:
 
If you know of a parish teaching/doing things contrary to the magisterium and cannot make headway with the pastor, write or go to the bishop of the diocese. Let him know how you feel and what you expect, that is, the full truth of the Catholic Church taught and lived in each parish. Ask the bishop to recommend a good loyal parish to you. Put him on the spot and implore him to do his job.

If the bishop does not take action, escalate. Go to the Papal Nuncio of your country about your bishops lack of loyalty and let him take it to the Vatican.
