But how can one not hate God when it seems all He does is threaten us with Hell? I find it very hard to love God when I feel like He is just waiting to cast me into Hell.
I would too, if I thought that was what He wants. But if I thought that was what He wanted, I would be calling Him a liar, for this is what His Word says:
2 Peter 3:8-9
8But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. **He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. **
1 Timothy 2:3-4
This is good and pleasing to God our savior,
who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.
If God wanted to damn us, He would NEVER have sent His Son to die on the Cross, bearing the worst agonies of the entire world, the sins of all the world on His shoulders! He would never have bled for us, suffered torture after torture and prayed, “Father, forgive them.”
nsper7:
I am sorry for getting so angry and everything, but how do I overcome this ‘fear of Hell’ motivation?
I urge you to read the Gospels! Especially spend time focusing on the Passion of Jesus Christ as you read it. There you will see the true God, the God of Love. You cannot read the Gospels and miss the God of Love if you’re prayerfully meditating on what you’re reading rather than just rushing through it. Let God’s Word soak into you. Immerse yourself in it.
Isaiah 55
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12 You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the pine tree,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the LORD’s renown,
for an everlasting sign,
which will not be destroyed."
