My husband’s physician has offered Viagra for my husband. More than anything I am very concerned about the life threatening side effects. Also concerning is the chemical interference used for sexual relations. We are well past the child bearing years.

It is not immoral to use a drug treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED), if that is your question. If you are concerned about side effects, that is a medical question for a physician.

It would be best if you move this thread to catholic living. I’m sure they will have far more desired advice on your husband’s condition than the defenders of the Catholic faith.

With regard strictly to the morality of chemical interference, there’s nothing wrong with it for therapeutic means–ie to treat a disorder. In this case, a drug would be used to help a dysfunctional reproductive system function properly. The contraceptive pill, on the other hand, when used as contraception, does not help fix a disorder, but rather makes a functional, otherwise healthy reproductive system not function as it should.
