What does the Church say about Viagra use? Is it a sin to use it or not?

I would say that if you are married, having problems in that area,
see a doctor, and he prescribes this medication, there is no sin.

Absolutely, no sin in a medication that restores/enhances a natural function of the body. As long as you are using it with your wife, of course.

It is a sin. The act should be all about an expression of love and Viagra changes it into an act of physical pleasure. On the other hand, without Viagra it can still be an act of love, even if there is no physical release.

We don’t know the circumstances or your intent. Generally speaking, if the drug is being used for therapeutical use (erectile disorder)…it’s not sinful.

yes it is an expression of love but it is also an act of physical pleasure. God created it that way. it didn’t start to feel good after the fall. therefore is the viagra is being used to be able to copulate with your wife there is nothing wrong with it. as long as the couple is open to having children from the process (not that it would necessarily be possible as most users of viagra are older and past chilbearing age but then again so was sarah and abraham).

My wife and I were having problems in this area for a little while and I did see a doctor who gave me a sample of Viagra.

I prayed on this to see if this is what Christ wanted for our relationship. I decided not to take the Viagra partly because I don’t like introducing drugs into my system if it may not be necessary.

I then had a follow-up appointment with my doctor and they diagnosed a different problem that was causing my impotance. I was put on a different medication that cleared up the problem.

Had I taken the Viagra they may not have diagnosed the other problem. I’m thankful God answered my prayer.

The point I’m trying to make here is that Viagra is being pushed by society and the drug industry as a “cure all”. I’m sure Viagra has its place, but please pray on it so you are lead where you need to be as it pertains to your health and the health of your relationship.

Take care and God bless you.
