If they’re being absolved now, does that mean the pain and suffering Christ went through before dying really didn’t account for ALL sins, cuz Father O’malley would handle a few?
That’s ridiculous…what’s the Word of God say about this Simon?

It’s right there in black and white (or red, black, and white in some cases…) Either obey the Bible or don’t, but don’t try to imply that the Catholic faith does not.

:confused: Authorized agency? the priest is taking away some of Christ suffering then? THAT is bold!
Don’t intentionally misunderstand.

If Christ Himself tells someone to do something and that they have the authority and responsibility to minister that then who are you gonna obey?

The scriptures are really quite plain and simple on this…if that is what they say then why do you not accept it and be obedient? Is obedience optional in your religion? 🤷
Not that it matters in your church, BUT nowhere in scripture can you prove absolution of sin by a priest.
Here, you are dead wrong and I have already shown you the very clear scriptural basis for it.

I’ll recap the passages in question for you…and your blood be on your own head after that. 😦

John 20:19: On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
20: When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
21: Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”
22: And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
23: If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Matthew 16:18: And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.
19: I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Matthew 18:18: Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

1st John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

James 5:14: Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
15: and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
16: Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects.

Christ gave His Church the authority to forgive sin by the breath of the Holy Spirit. But that’s not all. Christ also gave his Church the authority to retain sin, in which case, they will also be retained in Heaven. Once one has been unforgiven by the Holy Church, one cannot simply go “direct” to Christ for forgiveness.Yep! Ask Ananias and Sapphira!

You’re welcome. What does NM mean?
Either No message, or No mas. Looks like a CARMite style post to me. They do that all the time.

The man has no case here. The scriptures are against him and his human arguments are sadly lacking in the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. If I was him, I’d quit the discussion too, lest I be found fighting against God. (Acts 5:39)

Not that it matters in your church, BUT nowhere in scripture can you prove absolution of sin by a priest.
Old Testament
Leviticus 4

27 " 'If a member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the LORD’s commands, he is guilty. 28 When he is made aware of the sin he committed, he must bring as his offering for the sin he committed a female goat without defect. 29 He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering. 30 Then the priest is to take some of the blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 31 He shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the fellowship offering, and the **priest **shall burn it on the altar as an aroma pleasing to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for him, and **he will be forgiven. **

New Testament

John 20

21Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

Oh and again Saint Paul forgiving sins:
10To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
