In 1531 the Virgin Mary appeared to an Aztec laborer, Juan Diego, on a hill by Mexico City. This shows him going up the hill to meet her. The bishop of Mexico City said he should show him roses as a sign of her appearance, though it was winter and no roses grew then. Then when Juan Diego went to meet her again, there were roses growing there. This shows the roses from Mary Juan Diego found and brought to the bishop in his garment. And when Juan Diego gave the roses to the bishop, the great image of the Virgin Mary appeared miraculously on his garment. This film also shows what happened in Mexico after this.
The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe was just this last Saturday, on December 12.

Not only should there have been no roses there at that time of year, but the roses shouldn’t have been there at all! They were Castilian roses. Bishop-Elect Zumarraga came from the Castile region of Spain and missed the roses from that region. Our Lady provided the Bishop with the type of roses that he would recognize, and would realize that it was a miracle that they were in Mexico at all.
