I looked it up before I wrote my post.
bordello (Italian to English) : whorehouse, brothel, bedlam, mess

Principal meaning: whorehouse, brothel

It was profane, period.
Isn’t it nice you looked it up! I grew up speakin Italian at home. And although you are correct about the principal meaning of the word, when used colloquially, as it was being used in the headline of the newspaper, it means bedlam or mess. Which is exactly what you witnessed while watching the wretched display on video.

Put it to you this way, grace. I could be pulling your leg. Either my hand is around your leg and I’m forcing it towards me, or I’m jokingly telling you a tall tale. Or I could drive you up a wall. Because neither one of us are sharing a ride in a car, I’m most likely annoying you.

Look em up grace. Sometimes the secondary meaning is what is being intended. And what an american ear might find profane, an italian ear might find perfectly tame.

I thought it was politically correct to be sympathetic of cultural differences.

You know, it is interesting to notice that this kind of prayer or Mass i think they call it charismatic movement, it is nothing but modernism at best. did anyone notice that this movement is all about modernism?

i know this girl who is going to get married in teh Church. she is a charismatic Catholic. she has chosen a dress that i consider inappropriate to wear in Church. she called me an old fashion. they cant make a distinction between the Church and the world. these weading dresses are pretty worldly and i am surprised that some Catholics do not chose a more appropriate weadding dress, instead they ignore the presence of God and wear what it pleases them.
Phew, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who finds modern wedding dresses super tacky. Strapless looks BAD, period! Long sleeved dresses look so classy and elegant, and are far more comfortable, IMHO, plus now you look like a real woman worth marrying. And that’s not even getting into what to wear in front of Our Lord!.. ok my rant is complete 😃

I know, and if men don’t wear at least a tie or if the women don’t cover their heads we should kick them out of the Church before Mass starts, right? Right?

Right?
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Sorry if I don’t fit into your traddy stereotype.
The problem with being extreme about things is even when you are being reasonable, people still think you’re being extreme as always.
No, the problem is that you think that turning a basilica, a major house of prayer and meditation in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, into a convention hall is reasonable. Its no wonder that traditionals get a bit anal with dress code when one sees what passes for acceptable for churchwear including flip-flops and sort-shorts that just covers one’s butt. Sorry for being so graphic, but that is what comes of the convention hall atmsophere and that is what you will frequently find, especially during the summer, in modern Catholic churches. Even most Protestant churches would not tolerate what Catholic churches do. I just returned from 2 weeks in Rome and there is little restriction on dress or chatter in any of the major churches, including St. John Lateran and St. Peter’s. The Sistine Chapel is free-for-all akin to some political convention. In St. Peter’s, people step into confessionals and pose in mock prayer and mug for their friend’s cameras.

I bet you think that is just peachy because we should be having fun in church, right , right, right? Be honest … the more outrageous, the better, right??
Better call BXVI and inform him of these monstrosities STAT!
I would bet he wasn’t consulted and if he sees the video, will not let it happen again.

I finally got to watch the video and am not bothered in the least. They were singing praise style songs. There is no evidence this is Mass. It looks like a concert and is labeled a concert. Their were a half dozen ballons floating from two banners.

I am floored that this is an issue for anyone. I do not like the charismatic stuff myself, but using a Church for such a concert is scarcely a scandal. And balloons from banners??? This is an issue worth all this turmoil? I take it as a sign of many positive changes that something so inane and innoccuous has now become the focus of traditionalist rhetoric.

Innane and innoccuous is how the anthropocentric hootenanny, replete with an audience talking, walking around and many paying no attention to the Blessed Sacrament in front of them, in Our Father’s House no less, is characterized.

That is simply incredible.

Newt, I agree with Maurin. The transition in modernism from the church as the place, first and foremost, where one goes to pray and meditate in front of the Blessed Sacrament and assist in the Holy Sacrifice, to a multi-purpose gathering room where practically anything can take place is the issue.

It is unfair in the extreme to those who still want to meditate in the presence of Christ. Again, you can be whooping it up anywhere else with loudspeakers and rock bands beside the sanctuary.

Unfair? Most Churches aren’t open twenty-four seven. When I visited Immaculate Conception in D.C., they were even giving tours. Yet they also had a chapel area where they had adoration. How do you know from this video that there was not also Adoration in another location?

These people are praising and worshiping Christ and they have the sense to do it outside the confines of the Mass. If this is inappropriate, then so is the Rosary, Stations of the Cross and many other non-liturgical sacramentals.

You might as well, you may be correct actually, if this type of disrespect can pass as appropriate in the presence of the exposed Blessed Sacrament in the Monstrance plainly visible on the altar.

Maybe we watched different videos. The ones on the link are from the middle to the back of the church. I can barely make out that there is something on the altar. Even if that is a monstrance, there would be no way to see if the Holy Sacrament is present.

That seems fair enough…it does seem to me to obviously be a monstrance, but I can accept that some don’t agree.

I have never, though seen an empty monstrance left out on the
Altar for any length of time as this one would have been left, if it is a monstrance, which it clearly appears to be to me, either in an OF or an EF Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The empty Monstrance had always been removed from the Altar, in my recollection and experience.

In my opinion Newt, we have lost all sense of reverence in Church in how we act, how we speak, and how we dress and particularly in front of the Blessed Sacrament, because nothing is “out of bounds” - volume of music, moon dancing on the altar by hip-hop groups, whatever. They may all be praising God in their own way but this is absolutely inappropriate for a church.

perhaps we have gotten very far from our roots that we got lost. the best way is to go back and relearn again what we have lost. the SENSE OF WHO IS GOD and who we are. many of us seem to think that God is just one of us. you know like that song.

Great post; I absolutely agree. Regardless of the intentions of these people, what they are doing has no place whatsoever in a house of God. If any saint in the Church’s history saw what they were doing, would they not be horrified? The Blessed Sacrament is in that church, and people are having a party? No, that simply won’t stand.

The thinking and mindset of this post exemplifies the extent of the crisis we face. The frog/ boiling water analogy is used so often because it is so spot on. Any Saint of the Church would have run screaming from this sight. Over the past 50 years our Catholic sense, at first shocked by such abuses, has slowly grown accustomed to it and now accepts it. It is similar to the gradual acceptance of pornography and immodesty in our culture. The same images/ clothing that would have shocked our grandparents is now shown on network TV and worn by Catholic daughters.

The only answer to this crisis is a RE-sensitization to the sacred in the Church. This is done most perfectly by individuals exclusively attending the Tridentine Mass. Slowly Catholics who do so, will be more and more sensitized to the sacred to the point where a video, such as the one I posted, will make them recoil. This is the proper Catholic response to sacrilege and what is depicted in this video is indeed sacrilege.

Slowly, after a month or two of exclusive TLM attendance, individual Catholics will come out of the fog of their local guitar mass novus ordos and once again re-discover the true richness and depth of our Faith as practiced by our forebears throughout the ages. 90% of local parish masses are frabricated liturgies not even in step with VCII documents or the Latin Missal of Paul VI.

An awakened laity produces vocations and awakened priests, then Bishops, then Pope. Each one of us can be the beginning of the restoration.

Well-said and spot on!

Except if balloons at a concert it now the worst problem, the water temperature is cooling drastically.

The problem with your analogy, as with any analogy is that it proves nothing. Mass is not an amphibian. Balloons are not pornography. I know this sounds absurd. Heck, I think it absurd that I have to point out such simplistic errors in logic. When I see any group exaggerate an deceive to make a point, like all the railings of this being a “Novus Ordo” problem, then I wonder why such rhetoric is needed.

This is a “Novus Ordo” problem … or if that term offends you, a modern church problem. But you are missing the point if your impression is that the balloons are the issue.

Pretty sure there were no balloons at Calvary either.
