Homosexuals are queer, by definition, and it is the label they use openly as part of the LGBTQIABC etc.

Whether the term is derogatory may depend upon your intention. A person may describe themselves as homosexual, and simultaneously strive to conform themselves to the chaste single life as their Catholic faith would encourage. Such a person could be your son. Would you speak of him as “queer”. Would you confide in a friend - “my son is a queer”?

So what does the Q in LGBTQI etc, stand for then?
They call themselves “queers”.
Therefore it is not derogatory.
You therefore, from where you come from, will be giving yourself a smack in the mouth.
Perhaps you should give yourself an uppercut while you’re at it.

Some African Americans between themselves use the ‘N’ word. But we daren’t as Caucasions use the word ourselves. I think the same idea applies to the ‘q’ word.
