Have any CAF members besides myself played The Last of Us? I just finished the main part of the game today.

Although I own the game, I haven’t played it myself. I watched my brother play, but still loved the game, then watched one of my favorite Youtubers play the DLC.

I think the biggest thing about the game for me, was besides having memorable characters, and great music, it also taught me to appreciate the beauty in abondoned buildings. Was obsessed with buildings reclaimed by nature for a while, before realizing I had stuff like that in my backyard, and started taking pictures of it… The game made a huge impact on my music for awhile too, ended up using out of tune instruments pretty often for about a month before I discovered slam poetry 🙂

Even though ‘The Last of Us’, like most other video games, is rift with violence and scenes inappropriate for children, it capitalizes on benevolent messages, both directly and indirectly.

Such messages include the importance of family, steadfastness, and a desire to help others, no matter how imperfect one may be.

Furthermore, the violence contained within this video game is disturbing, but not disturbing enough to create long-time nightmares within the minds of the players. Violence may be beneficial or harmful to a story depending on how it is presented. Violence taking place simply for the sake of violence and entertainment, fosters harmful messages; tragic mentions include many modern horror movies and stories, too heinous to name. :onpatrol:

In ‘The Last of Us’, the violence itself has a purpose: it makes the players, and the characters they control, more aware of the importance of family, steadfastness, and a desire to help others. This makes the violence beneficial to the overall story of ‘The Last of Us’.

Violence is best used moderately, rather than excessively. Using violence in a way which it by itself would be glorified, is morally harmful to the players and game creators. ‘The Last of Us’ does not seem to use violence in such a manner. Therefore, it is likely a morally safe game to play.

I loved this game, although I did not enjoy the ending. I was torn over the ending. I felt like Joel was indeed put in a tough situation at the end of the game. Basically both him and Ellie are in a tough situation. Ellie doesn’t want to go on living knowing that she is the cure to the virus. Joel doesn’t want to go on living without Ellie in his life. I just felt that my altruistic nerve wasn’t satisfied with the outcome. I think Joel’s motives are more selfish than considerate of sparing Ellie the grief. So I felt like he should have done something different.

My suspicion is that Ellie will find out in the sequel that he lied and run away, and the game will be Joel going after her.
