The fact that this statement needed to be said on a Catholic forum shows the extent of the crisis in the Church and the complete loss of all Catholic sensibilities of a growing number of our population.

That these videos are not seen to depict sacrilege is the worst indictment on those with this viewpoint. They truly have no sense of what the Mass is.
I have to agree too. The “Catholic Sense” has been beaten down for so long it’s on the verge of extinction.

Most of the Masses that the self-proclaimed popes of liturgical “reform” have judged to be blasphemous are really children’s Masses. Only one Mass out of all the Masses in a parish would have a mass like that. They do not represent the norm, and even those parishes will admit they are not the norm, but are instead meant to help the children remember the mass more vividly.
Uuuuhhhh…what the children are remembering has nothing to do with the Mass. What they are remembering is a sideshow that is, at best, a total distraction. None of that other stuff is remotely related to the Sacrifice of Calvary, which is where we are at Mass. None of that stuff is calculated to teach this to children. Quite the contrary.

As a '70s-era, fairly liberal priest said aptly the other day: “The more entertainment you need, the less faith you have.”

The idea that the Mass somehow needs to be spiced up is symptomatic of a crisis of faith.

I tend to agree that if one needs something more than the simple quiet of Divine Liturgy/Mass/Qorbono, then one’s faith is not very strong. But there are two points I’d like to make:
  1. Who are you to judge the level of faith anyone else has? If some people are at that stage in their faith which requires a little more than the solemnity of the Liturgy, what right do you have to condemn them, or the efforts of the Church to help them out? None.
  2. Those who think that solemnity is the only way to worship God while condemning every other expression of worship are just as bad as those who think the hoopla and the emotionalism is the only way to worship God while disparaging the value of solemnity.
Blessings

Wow. I must have hit pretty close to home.

Nope.

If it was after Mass, why does it matter? Besides, it might have been the feast of St. Francis for all you know. Also, there could have been a Scripture reading involving a lion, or birds.

Get a hold of yourself, sir. There was no dancing there. Besides, not only is the rooster a ubiquitous symbol in Mexico, but the hen or rooster plays a prominently role in several Gospel passages.

I have seen you guys go out on a limb before in usually futile attempts to justify these sorts of things but you really took the cake on this one.👍

First, who said it was after the Mass? I don’t recall seeing that anywhere. It could just have easily been in the Mass as was the Chicken prancing around just prior to the Gospel acclamation. But since many charismatics use that time for “spontaneous” bursts of praise, I guess maybe these days it is kind of a free period, a recess so to speak in the Mass

Quite true the Chicken was not dancing. Mea maxima culpa. Prancing would be a better term I guess and starting to move down into the congregation as the video ended. As to chickens figuring prominently in several Gospel stories, so do adulterers, beggars, the blind, the lame, thief’s, Roman Legionaires, prostitutes and the dead. I didn’t see them being put on display in an attempt to rev up the congregation, nor have I ever.

And exactly what context does the chicken play in the Liturgical system in Mexico? As a catechist in San Diego, California for many years, I attended many many Latino Masses, in San Diego, Tijuana and other towns on the Baja Peninsula in Mexico… Never saw a chicken though, except for dinner or at a cockfight. Maybe it’s new, huh?.

Well at least they didn’t have la Santissima Muerte up there waving it’s scythe around.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens, nor would I be surprised at progressives jumping up to defend it. They defend just about everything else.

Super! Not just the priests, but now even our children are under the condemnation of the traditionalist “reforms.”:tsktsk::dts::highprayer:

I grew up through a lot of litugical nonsense (born in early 90s) and as kids, we accepted this **** because the adults forced it on us. Do you think we planned a Mass with a chicken? No, this was done by adults with agendas.

And once we go to a Mass like this, it instantly eliminates whatever sense of reverence we were taught. Then we have a precedent, that if any abuse is inserted into the Mass we think back to our chicken days, and how fun it was. Surely if that was allowed, so should illicit pita bread hosts, and the redefinition of the Eucharist, because when everything goes, so goes the Church. It’s not a slippery slope argument, I’ve lived it, and am sick of the nightmarish Masses I have been to. My generation, and those in these videos, really needs your prayers.

Where did that person judge the level of faith someone else has? And mascots at the altar is NOT the way to worship God. When Jesus started the Catholic Church, did he say anything about mascots up there to please the kids or whatever? Like I said, Jesus would not want mascots at the altar, and I’m sure He finds it quite offensive when they are up there.

Do you even bother to read posts before you start slinging accusations around or is your agenda solely to bash traditionalists at all times? Where in Palmas post did he say anything even remotely condemning children? If he did, could you please point it out?

Yes, he did – it’s in the same chapter as his discussion of maniples, chalice veils, martyrs’ relics, and communion rails.

/irony, but whether or not Jesus did something at the Last Supper is not the defining criterion for what we do at Mass. Mascots at Mass do suck, absolutely, but not being mentioned by Jesus isn’t the reason they suck.

“The more entertainment you need, the less faith you have.”

And you’re presuming without any proof that this was done during the Liturgy. Why can’t you give the benefit of the doubt?👍

I don’t bash traditionalists. I oppose irrationality.

Yeah, if children sing a song to God with “bursts of praise,” then they have no sense of respect for God. Oh, brother!

“The more entertainment you need, the less faith you have.”
This remark is alleged to constitute “judging” other people’s faith. Read my post again. I was quoting a liberal priest of my diocese. He said that during a homily.
I oppose irrationality.
Then you can start by being attentive to what is actually said before you respond.

I think someone said it was done afterwards, but regardless of when it occured, it’s a slap in the face to Christ Himself to have that kind of sac-religious nonsense happening at the altar. That’s about as bad as playing limbo up there. If I ever walked into a Church that had anything like that during Mass, I’d run out of there in a heartbeat.

You are right my friend. This whole thing far from being orchestrated by a Liturgical Director in the same way that the Charismatics do, was actually a spontaneous burst of praise by the kids. It just happened to occur when a giant chicken popped into the Church…

You guys are really something else.

Is there anything at all that you won’t defend happening in a Mass?

Of course there is:
  • Latin
  • Gregorian chant
  • Incense
  • Priest facing God instead of the people
  • Kneeling to receive Communion

15 giant dancing chickens in the sanctuary. Really, any more than 10 would be excessive.

If I may, without getting in trouble from the moderator, pose a simple question…

Are these masses the fruits of the Second Vatican Council’s liturgical reforms? I believe the Latin Mass was considered the “Mass for all times” for a reason. With strict rigidity and form, the Latin Mass explicitly prevents this kind of blasphemy on the altars.

I hope that I don’t get in any trouble with the moderators, but I must say that the liturgical reforms by Vatican II have opened up the doors to these kinds of abuses…

God Bless
