“The NYPD said that on Sunday at approximately 3:57 a.m., an unidentified man urinated on two religious angel statues located at the Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church before pushing them to the ground and breaking them. The unidentified male was last seen fleeing Metropolitan Avenue toward Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, according to police.”

This seems to happen every year in NYC to some statue outside a church. I suspect it’s the usual homeless/ mentally ill people in the vast majority of the cases. At 4 in the morning I suppose it could also be someone who was completely drunk stumbling home from some bar.

We should pray for this person rather then gossip about what he did.

It’s hardly gossip when the man’s action is the subject of a public news story with him on film committing a crime, and this situation happens frequently in NYC where it is generally the subject of a public news story, usually with photographs or footage, every time it occurs.

If the posts on this thread are “gossip” then every story in the “In the News” section is also gossip.

I don’t object to praying for the man, but calling discussion of a news story “gossip” is unnecessarily judgmental.

Apparently this church has been the target of similar vandalism towards its outdoor statues at least 5 times now. I have no idea why they don’t move the statues to some area where they won’t be accessible to every bro walking home from the bars.

On a positive note, the church received an ecumenical gesture of support from the local Muslim and Jewish leaders. That’s very nice.

Before I even looked at this news my thoughts were that they can destroy statues but never an idea.

By which I mean our faith of course.

My church is extremely humble, when I first attended i was reticent about the whole thing…briefly…but I’m glad to say that my Immediate flowing thought was that my chosen religion was in my heart not the building. The buildings and statues are great but the faith and God is within my heart, within my soul, safe.
