She seems to be opposed to polygamy but less critical of same sex “marriage”. Both are disordered and sinful, but at least polygamy is natural in the biological sense.
She also noted that the Utah AG will not prosecute such marriages. I don’t know how he/she could if all but the 1st were not registered as legal marriages (i.e. if only 1 wife is legally married). To the state, the others would be adulterous affairs which are legal.
Finally, it seems to me that gay “marriages” lead quickly to define-marriage-as-you-like. Polygamy and group marriage (multiple men and women) seem easily and directly justifiable by the arguments used for gay “marriage”. If opposite gender is not a requirement, then what is special about restricting to a single spouse? Tradition of thousands of years is no longer a consideration.
Legal marriage will mean nothing beyond a set of legal rights, if even that. Ironically, the Church may be barred from being a legal agent of the state in registering marriages if it “discriminates” against whoever the state says may marry. I don’t see this going any different than adoption services. Future Christian marriages will be a 2 step process, once in the church and once in front of the state’s representative.
