Why?

Is sex a “thing you do” or a profoundly private expression of love?

It’s an expression of love, I just didn’t know if it was permissible or not. I know there’s no specific teaching on it. I wondered if it would be considered pornography, just between spouses.

To follow on what @pianistclare said, the issue is taking the marital embrace out of it’s proper context.

One has to ask what the purpose would be. Does it strengthen the marital bond or is it simply for titillation?

There are basic things about Catholicism. The church advocates, purity of thought, chaste living, and respectful personal interaction. She doesn’t “rule” on every single scenario, as videotaping is a fairly recent innovation in the world.
Having said that, I would think it might be unwise, as it seems disrespectful and objectifying, even if you don’t think it does.
What happens when a child stumbles on those tapes? Or an intruder?
I wouldn’t permit it.

What Usige said while I was typing, as well.

In this day and age DO NOT use any electronic equipment for potentially embarrassing activity. Whether it’s picture, video, or text. Keep it all off the “record”.

I would tell our priest, I tell him a lot anyway. I agree with everyone though that I shouldn’t do it. I just needed to hear it I guess.
