The local Catholic diocese and the Chua Ve Pagoda Buddhist Centre set up a joint Committee for Charity and Humanity to promote AIDS prevention and the fight against HIV-AIDS. Mgr Joseph Nguyen Van Thien, bishop of Hai Phong, and Fr J.B. Vu Van Kien, director of the local Caritas, sit on the committee.
