Vietnam: Mother Sets Herself on Fire for Catholic Daughters' Freedom

She fatally set herself on fire in protest after the government put her daughter in prison for critizing the prison system, on the web. Her daughter is a former police officer who converted to Catholicism. The Catholic Vietnamese community, which itself faces economic persecution, is in shock over this event.

Religious repression is pretty much par for the course in Vietnam, and has been for a long time. Atheist governments tend to repress religious freedom, communist governments in particular.
