I would view a mosque the same way I would view a chapel for the Society of Saint Pius X. Both places tend to espouse far-right views that run counter to Western values. I would feel uncomfortable about a mosque because people with far-right ideas may congregate there. Ideas espoused by far-right Muslims include sexism, anti-Semitism, and support for terrorist groups like ISIS.
If ISIL wanted to open a Mosque I would be against it. If the KKK wanted to open a Church I would be against it.
Wanting to prevent the opening though of any Mosque or any Church would invite folks to provide their opinion that Jewish Synagogues or Hindu Temples should not be allowed to be built.
Religious buildings are not a problem. People can be a problem though. No matter what arguments anti Islamic folks bring to the table, there are Muslims today who are teaming with Christians to defeat ISIL…saying Jihad means to resist ISIL and that Islam teaches Christians are equal to Muslims.
Not all Muslims are terrorists. Some Muslims reject the violence. I am referring to extremist Islam.
I dont think that a part of my religion, Christianity, or what some view as “radical Christianity”… has a part of it that allows for discrimination against Jews. Through history though some Christians have said that Jesus would allow for discrimination against Jews, Pagans, other so called Heretics. This occurred even during the 20th century. Today folks are trying to say that a part of Islam, or radical Islam allows for what ISIL does…I dont see it this way.
Through history some Muslims have discriminated against Jews, Christians, Pagans, or infidels. And today we are seeing Muslims in ISIL say that Muhammad would be ok with discriminating against Christians, Jews, Atheists.
Yet some of the great Christian scholars of the middle ages like Jean Bodin argued that Jews, Muslims, Christians can live together in peace. :hug3: Bodin visited the Ottoman Empire and wrote positively of the societal values of the Ottomans. Due to the fact that peaceful people from all walks of life exist, including peaceful Muslims…I’m ok with a Mosque being a built.
