It depends on what type of Satanism you’re referring to. LaVeyan Satanism I think is simply misunderstood, no thanks of course to Anton LaVey’s use of the term “Satanism” to his philosophical beliefs. LaVeyan Satanism is more philosophical than religious. It’s meant more to shock people rather than to actually espouse Satan. However, there is a religious type of Satanism, one where the worship and belief in Satan is real. This is the type of Satanism that most people know.
LaVeyan Satanism is, at its core, more atheistic: it views man as Satan himself, man being his own god. Of which of the two (or more) types of Satanism is more dangerous, or more evil, I cannot say though. Both types have their own particular dangers.

As previously mentioned, there is the Satanism of the ‘Satanic Bible’ which is more of an Epicurean or Hedonist manifesto than anything else, and then there are those who actively worship Satan. To be honest, I don’t think that they are too different, because the former essentially worships the human self and indulges its carnal impulses without respect for the Word of God, and that is precisely what Satan tempts us to do anyway. So whether you’re worshipping the snake in the Garden of Eden or simply encouraging everyone to eat the fruit and disobey God, you are not living in the baptismal light of Christ and therefore have no life in you.

My opinion as of this very moment? Hm.
It is a sort of chicanery that attempts to convince an individual that he is greater than he feels he in reality is. It is a worldview for the outcast, for the sort of person who feels isolated from the society around him, and who attaches a sort of nobleness to such things. It is for people who feel there is greater wisdom in what the few believe by proxy, rather than in a consensus of thinking opinions. It is for those who secretly wish to live in isolation, covered in great wealth, and surrounded in beautiful material possessions. It is for those who wish their lives were permeated with actions that are motivated by nearly unfathomable genius. It is for those who wish to be fascinating to others, whilst yet shunning such others, and thereby controlling them with their charisma. It is for those who have none of these things.
In short, Satanism is something which people who lead rewarding lives, who feel they offer something positive to their communities, and who are surrounded with love, generally do not feel an emotional reason to investigate. Someone who has not severed ties with their family, who is in a long-term, happy relationship, who has graduated university with a pertinent degree, and who therefrom has developed a career, generally would not find Satanism (in any of its forms) to be something which is necessary, and something from which they can construct happiness.
But, those are merely my opinions.

It’s not much of a thread to be quite frank. Satanism: debate it. We’ve had heaps of Satanism threads on CAF. It would be easier for the OP to look in the archives. LeVayan atheistic type Satanism is the predominant with Satan as an archetype representing their human-centered selfish philosophy. The other type of Satanism where they actually light black candles and worship Astaroth wearing goat headdresses is less common and more laughable than the LeVeyan.

The most annoying kind of Satanism is when idiot teens wear “Satanist” t-shirts at malls and movie theaters to try to look cool or scary or whatever - when they have nothing to do with (and ZERO knowledge of) either kind of Satanism.

Satanism is all about denying the Salvation grace of God through Jesus Christ, His Son.
Whether it is by atheism (denying that God exists) or by polytheism (saying that God is every one of those idols and therefore denying His powers) or by denying the Son (saying Jesus is not the Son of God) or by limiting the power of God (saying God would be unable to do this or that without a certain entity etc).
All these are Satanism.
