I know there are restrictions on receiving Holy Communion twice in one day, unless you are serving at one of the Masses etc. My question is if you go to the Saturday Night Vigil Mass and receive, may you also go to Sunday Morning and receive?

Thanks,

There is no sense of going to Sunday morning Mass if go to Saturday Vigil Mass. Saturday Vigil Mass satisfies the Sunday Mass obligation.

You might want to look up the rule, as you have it wrong. You do not need to be serving at the Mass.

The rule is that you may receive twice in a day, but the second reception must be at a Mass. Implied in that is that you attend the full Mass; full attendance, for the minimalists used to be set at from the start of the Gospel through Communion.

The Saturday Night Vigil Mass suffices as fulfilling the Sunday obligation, but because it is received on Saturday before midnight, it would not count as to twice in the same day. If you went, for example, to a wedding Mass on Saturday (which would not satisfy the obligation) and then went to Mass later that evening, you could receive twice on Saturday and again on Sunday if you chose; in fact , given that scenario, you could also receive twice on Sunday.

I know it fufills my Sunday obligation but of course there is sense in going to Mass as often as possible. My parish does not offer the “Saturday Mass” we only have the vigil. I like to go to Daily Mass when possible so if I have a chance I go to both.

but there are many reasons why you might find yourself attending more than one weekend Mass: you are serving at one Mass, and attend another with your family; you are required to be at several Masses to make an announcement or some other duty (I always attend at least 3 and sometimes all 5 weekend Masses, especially during the Easter Season when we have 1st communions at all Masses). I can think of lots of cases, so the question is legitimate. You can receive communion twice in one day, as long as the 2nd time is during the context of Mass and you attend the entire celebration. If you are in danger of death, you may receive communion again even if you already received twice.

I always assumed the Saturday evening Mass “counted” for Sunday, so I can receive once more during a Sunday Mass, but have not seen this specific answer in writing. Brother SFO? Deacons?
