I want to attend Mass on my confirmation saint’s feast day. However, due to travel, I may not be able to do so. Can I honor my beloved and very close saint by attending the evening Mass on the night before her feast day? I love and honor her so much; she has been such a beloved Gift and Grace from our Lord to me and many others. I do find out that if I attend the evening before, there is a led prayer of the Divine Mercy (which I LOVE).

I know we don’t have to attend Mass at all on a saint’s day. I do have the option of attending very early in the morning, but I don’t know that I will be able to attend that early in the morning. I am considering that I will attend Mass the evening before, and then, if possible, I will go the following morning.

Are there any special ‘graces’ or indulgences attached to attending Mass for your confirmation saint’s feast day?

Thanks.

I see no one answered your question. Technically, the day starts at sunset, so the vigil is on the feast day. I do not know of any ‘special’ graces, but we honor those who have gone before us, saints and loved ones, by especially remembering them and attending mass. I pray that you were blessed.

Technically, the day begins at midnight, unless otherwise specified. Liturgically, only solemnities begin at sundown the day before. So, if your saint has a feast or memorial celebrated, then s/he will not have a vigil the night before.

It is possible, under the usual conditions, to obtain a partial indulgence by those
  • “who on the memorial of any saint listed in the calendar recite in that saint’s honor the prayer taken from the Missal or another one approved by legitimate authority.” Concession 21
The memorial day is midnight to midnight.

There are also partial indulgence concessions for devout recitation of a duly approved prayer in honor of:
  • One’s Guardian Angel - Concession 18
  • Saint Joseph - Concession 19
  • The Apostles Peter and Paul (recite Sancti Apostoli Petre et Paule) * - Concession 20
  • Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, intercede for us. Guard you people, who rely on the patronage of your apostles Peter and Paul, O Lord, and keep them under your continual protection. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
