In Canada Epiphany is being celebrated tomorrow. Tonight I attended the Vigil of Epiphany and was pleasantly surprised when Fr. opted for the Roman Canon. It had been a long time since a priest had opted for EP I so it was nice, particularly when combined with the Confiteor.

Nice surprise!

In the USA Latin Calendar the 8th is Epiphany (solemnity) and the 9th is The Baptism of the Lord (feast).

In the USA Byzantine Catholic Calendar the 6th is Theophany (solemnity) and the 9th (this year) is the Sunday After Theophany. Theophany is the Baptism of the Lord, the visit of the Three Kings having been celebrated at the Nativity of the Lord.

At the abbey, Epiphany was yesterday (Friday). The Roman Canon was also used (chanted in French).

Stop torturing me.
😃
We were equally tortured! I prefer EP II, especially on a weekday when I have things to do 😉

As did Mgr. Lefebvre too, when he had to say Mass rapidly in an airport, it seems, according to his personal secretary who confided this to a monk from France that I am good friends with. He clearly didn’t want the info to go public though given his opposition to anything Vatican II. I thought I’d mention it posthumously 😃

Yep. EP I here, too, with the Communicantes proper to Epiphany. 😉

The whole EP I with the Epiphany Communicates is printed alongside the propers for the Epiphany in the Filipino Missal, yet Father opted to say EP II instead. We had the blessing of the epiphany chalk after the homily.

I did mean Confiteor (as opposed to one of the other formulas for the penitential rite). He got all mixed up with the Communicantes, providing us with a proper déjà-vu feeling.

In the Ordinariate, EP I (in traditional language) is mandatory every Sunday so it was used today with the proper Communicantes). We do not however use the Confiteor.

Does the Ordinariate use the long version of the Kyrie?

We sing the Kyrie in Greek to the St. Gregory Mass setting. A licit alternative is to recite Christ’s Summary of the Law, which is sometimes done on weekdays. We then use the BCP Confession just before the Offertory.
Priest: Ye that do truly and earnestly repent you of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways: Draw near with faith, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God, meekly kneeling upon your knees.
All: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men: We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we from time to time most grievously have committed, By thought, word, and deed, Against thy Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, And are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; The remembrance of them is grievous unto us; The burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; For thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, Forgive us all that is past; And grant that we may ever hereafter Serve and please thee In newness of life, To the honour and glory of thy Name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Priest: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him; Have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
