Should a Catholic listen to these genres of metal? Most songs are about mythology, Vikings, nature, etc. But some are about pagan gods. The music is also in German, Dutch, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Russian, Faroese most of the time

Sure, if you like that stuff. Just as long as you’re aware that it’s just a song and not something you should take seriously.

If you get too paranoid about this stuff, it leads to some real absurd conclusions.

For starters, I agree with BoomBoom, and it is one of the genres I enjoy.

NeoPaganism is shedding its camouflage these days as modern Western society turns farther away from God, so who knows.

The best thing to do is to maintain a healthy dose of appropriate skepticism with all things in life. When I sing along with Manowar, “Take me to Valhalla, where my brothers wait for me” for instance, or “we are sons of odin, the fires we burn inside”, Jesus Christ and all he taught us are always right there in my mind, reminding me of the way, the truth, and the life. It’s not even a conscious thing; it just happens.

That’s just my two $0.02 of course, and what works for one may not necessarily work for others.
