Our parish is expecting a visit from the bishop soon and, as MC, I’d like to clad the crozier and mitre bearers in vimpa. Does anyone know where to get them?

Thanks!

Adam

Vimpa are pretty stiff, at least the ones I’ve seen. I’d look at a religious supply house if you’re buying, and a place that rents gowns (as in “caps and gowns, choir robes”) et al if you’re not.

Cheapest of all, you might ask the bishop’s MC if it would be possible for him to bring a set.

Well - I learned something today! I’d never heard of this article before, so that was interesting.

From the look and description, this appears to be an extremely easy thing for someone to make. I would imagine that I could make something like this for three people in a Saturday afternoon. If you can’t find them, just make them.

Yes, you, see that’s the issue…I AM the bishop’s MC.

May I have a citation on where any document requires a Master of Ceremonies to be a clergyman?

It’s right next to where I said being a priest was required. Still I hope as your bishop’s MC, you are an ordained priest.

Our diocese is quite rural. No, I am not a priest. And, I’m sorry I’m not seeing any reference where a Master of Ceremonies is required to be a priest. I can certainly understand the preference, but we don’t have that luxury.

Please cite your reference to this, the document where you obtained this infirmation to back up your statement. As far as I know, there is no requirement that a bishop’s MC even must be clergy.

The MC does NOT have to be an ordained. In the more orthodox (little O) of dioceses you will find the MC is a priest or deacon…in the more heterodox dioceses you will find the MC is a woman who is playing mini priestess…One can also tell the contrasts in such dioceses by the number of vocations.

Not saying the MC being a priest has anything to do with vocation shortages I am just pointing out the dioceses that do things more …ahem…orthodoxly…usually are blessed with vocations.
