Its kind of funny actually, whenever people complain about two pieces, or even an inch of belly showing, but are fine with one piece suits I always find it kind of amusing. To me, one piece suits are just too revealing, as are bikini bottoms. Give me a nice pair of swim shorts and a top any day over a one piece. I just don’t get whats so terrible about an inch (or more) of belly showing whereas I feel way too subconscious in anything that revealing around ones backside. I’d take board shorts and a decent bikini top over a one piece any day. 🤷
 
Makes me want to go swimming! It’s odd to think that at the public pool in my home town, you’d get kicked out for wearing that.
 
Haven’t gotten all the way through all 359 of them, but they make me long for the olden days, and maybe we should bring a few of these styles back, eh?

I have to say, the ones taken in England and France - that water is COLD! :eek:

Oh, and look at this one - bathing AND smoking! :eek::eek:

Lighting Up
 
Two-piece was pretty much the norm when I was growing up. When I was 11 or so my grandmother was going through an album and I there was a beach pic of my mother and her sisters when they were in high school. They were all wearing one-piece bathing suits and my thought at the time was, “that’s weird”. My grandmother had to explain the change in style.
 
I think she would have been considered rather scandalous in 1911 wearing that. I have a picture somewhere of my grandmother from that era and it was more in the line of this hourglassdesigns.com/dixie%20swimsuit%20002.jpg. Only in granny’s case the hair was completely covered, the dress and knickers were both below the knees, the sleeves were longer, and the top was up to her neck. She was also wearing shoes! Also, she told me that there were curtains on the beach that reached into the water to separate the men and women so they couldn’t see each other. Of course at that time a lot of people didn’t really swim - it was more of a health thing. They would just go out a few feet and sit in the water.

If you could swim in that (the link you posted) my 17 year old daughter would love that outfit. She’d love it just to wear actually. 👍 She loves vintage modest stuff and she looks adorable in hats.
 
I wish these things were still in style. Most of them look pretty neat. 🙂

I don’t think swimming, like we do nowadays, would be safe in that outfit. If you got in over your head you’d probably sink like a stone from the weight of all that waterlogged cloth.

The title of this article - “Before the Bikini: Rare Vintage Beach Photos” - is not totally true.**

The bikini (the two pieces of swimsuit) was invented (created and used) by the human being, very long time ago. We have information via the “paintings” (drawings) **of the Romanity (the Latin Antiquity). ***In fact, the majority of people are ignorant (lack of universal knowledge about the history, the history is not enough known, in the details).

========> The wearing of the bikini is not sinful, per se and by nature.
 
Isn’t there a point at which being “too” modest becomes a problem, too? It seems to me that modesty does indeed have its blessings, but it can also be a cause for sinful pride (“look how modest I am! I love God more than you do!”)
