Yes, he wrote the Military Missal too. My mom says there’s a guide for confession in this Sunday Missal that she used a lot.
 
I got one of those for a friend i mentioned up-thread wih the 1955 Misalae Romanum… He has a small but growing collection of Catholic books.

The Millitary Missal is great- I am going to get another one as soon as I have the money
 
This was one of those completely out-of-the-blue finds, and given that I wasn’t Catholic when I found it, another sign of God working in my life that I kept it.

This is a copy of Deharbe’s English-German Catechism. As best I can tell, the publication date is somewhere around 1902. About ten years ago, my parents bought the home of an elderly widow, and her family sold it with most of the furniture, etc. This was tucked in a desk in a shed - it’s only about the size of my hand, so we nearly overlooked it and sent it into the fire with everything else from the shed. I’m very glad I didn’t, and that something told me to hang onto it!

If anyone else knows more about it, please let me know!! Also, if there is a museum or collection somewhere that might find it a useful addition, I’d love to know that too, because I don’t have the resources to really preserve it properly.

I need to post a pic but I have a bible printed in either 1883 or 1887, can’t remember. In my closet, needs to go in the safe!
 
That one turns up quite often in the books donated to the parish!

The auto-thread closure thing is annoying. If it should close, I’m sure we could start a Part II, as the moderator has not objected to the topic.
 
Yes @Tis_Bearself but I’m not very much the type to open topics, so before there wasn’t a Part II, I preferred keeping this one open. Also, I have had little time to post and still want to write a brief comment to some of the books on this thread. Because the posters were actually very generous to share with us books that are a family heritage and I had never seen books like these, so I want to take my time before I comment on those books.
 
The second book ever printed about Fátima.

Printed 1923, in Guarda, Portugal. First and only edition. Collation 37 pages, folio 16º. 16,3cm x 11,4 cm.

Last paragraph on page 10 reads:

“While we await that veredictum, let us seek to live as good Christians, strictly fulfilling all our duties, let us make penitence for our sins and pray fervently the ‘third’ of the Rosary, that devotion so dear of all Portuguese, so that Our Lady of the Rosary, if She effectively appeared at Fátima, may deign to dissipate all doubts and make that fact superior to all contest of good faith.”

I have a copy of Father Joseph Stedman’s My Military Missal, distributed by the Precious Blood Fathers and the National Catholic Community Services, and printed for World War Two… It has some water damage, and rust spots from the staples… I know my sticky note tabs will turn off some antique book purists, but I bought this in order to use.

I like it, black and red print over beige paper is as pleasant as it gets. The watermarks in no way diminish it’s value, just a natural effect of having paper as a medium. Certain kinds of paper absorb air humidity, so if you live in tropical climates it is simply impossible to avoid those. Some collectors of course strive to get pristine condition exemplars but that is not always realistically possible, so a good bibliophile happily overlooks such minor characteristics deriving pleasure from the book itself. I also think it is great you bought the copy for personal use, as should be. That is what it’s all about. I consider all my antiques to be for personal use.

If you come across any book restoration provider they’ll put in a couple of stainless steel staples free of charge in a couple of minutes, a small gracious service provided. To avoid getting charged you should off course take out the old staples and clean the rust yourself. Beware of modern staples, they rust within a few months at room humidity.

Ehh the rust doesent diminish utility at all… i think it lends character, so i’ll probably keep it as is
 
It’s an option. You might notice the book I posted before yours has the original staples 90 years old. I haven’t gotten around to taking care of it, but I will. Those staples aren’t the worst kind, some do progress at rusting with time and leave a larger mark causing further damage. I’m also not sure as to the correct cleaning technique. The problem is that the rust particles already present can get released with handling and further stain the book. Mine is currently inside its own container without contact of the atmosphere, I also rarely and only carefully handle it. So I’m not being pressed to take care of it urgently.
