I recently bought a few items from an estate sale on eBay: a few small crucifixes and a statue of Mary, a antique Bible and an old/antique prayer book … Father Lasance’s My Prayer Book.

Well I love the prayer book and took it with me to Mass today. Suddenly I wondered if I should have any “religious antiques” I might buy …blessed? I know it’s not necessary to get a prayer book blessed to simply open it and pray the prayers or a Rosary for that matter, when it’s brand new and not blessed it certainly still usable…but for the mere fact that antiques ARE used by a stranger, should I get them blessed?

Thoughts? There may not be a definitive answer but what would YOU do?

I think I would get it blessed. Do what makes you feel comfortable.
The only reason I wouldnt get it blessed is if there was an inscription
saying it was blessed.

I just asked my priest a similar question! He said if something which has been blessed is sold, it needs a new blessing (if you want it to be blessed).

Some things people regularly get blessed; others not. You don’t “need” to get some things blessed as much as you do sacpular medals, Rosaries, and wedding rings.
