Unlike a number of areas for which this is claimed, this topic is truthfully a “nuanced” one. There are various genres of film which feature violence and have varying moral content.

Movies about war, crime, etc, are normally violent, but vary in their morality. Just as war itself can be just or unjust, a movie about it can be moral or immoral, depending upon how the violence is thematically presented. Showing dramatic conflict in a violent situation is different from glorifying the violence itself. The same can be said in films about crime.

If they were to encourage violent thoughts among viewers wont that be a problem? I mean, when many of us see those movies, we could end up picturing the scenes in our minds afterwards.

Notwithstanding the moral bankruptcy of an MPAA that gives PG’s and PG-13’s to movies with a body count in the first few minutes, you shouldn’t be going to any movies that present an occasion of sin for you. If “many of us” picture the scenes in your mind afterwards, then you may not be mature enough to view such movies and so the prudent and moral thing to do would be to abstain from viewing said movies.

I would especially say this of “vigilante” movies, which have been popular over decades. Extremely emotionally manipulative and and condoning of extreme violence for the “greater good.”

I have no problem with violent action movies. However, I do have issue with torture porn. I hate seeing people dying in pain for someone else pleasure. That’s why I rarely watch movies released by Lions Gate.

I am thinking whether having some of those thoughts we might have after the movie would be considered wrong, the same way lustful thoughts would be.

Violent thoughts aren’t evil in of themselves. It depends on who you direct them to and under what context.

Surely even you wouldn’t hesitate at throwing violence at fictional bad guys like Voldemort.

Lol. Well I watched the movie “Red State” last week which wI found scary. I still seem to remember the violent scenes of how an innocent character was tortured.

I’m interested in seeing a movie about the Nazis, I’ll check out the one you saw 😃

I take back what I said, the ‘Red State’ movie wasn’t exactly scary 😃 but torturing in terms what the evil cult did. Great movie with action 😉

I’ll rephrase what I said…the movie ‘Red State’ did involve action, I didnt find it scary in that sense though, It was actually some personal anger I held when I saw the scene of the evil cult torturing its victim. Great movie IMO though, I want to make a thread about it 😃
