Violent Video Games

I recent post on violent movies, plus my own wondering mind, has me wondering lately whether violent video games (particularly Call of Duty, which I play) are morally wrong or not. I don’t want to just blindly follow the culture (with its changing secular “morals”), but conform my conscience to God’s law. What does everyone think?

If it doesn’t make you a violent man or make you think about hurting others, then I don’t think it’s morally wrong.

Video games can be a great distraction and can make you distant from God since they take a lot of your time and eventually make you forget about your obligations in life and to God so I guess you just have to balance everything. Don’t let video games take over your life.

Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook) was reported to play 15 hours a day … James Holmes (Aurora Batman movie) played frequent too … I think Harris & Klebolt (Columbine) played too. Video games are now becoming grounds for divorce.

In short, they are good at leading us into temptation. Similar to alcohal, there are differnt levels of tolerance each person has.

I would say one must look at each and judge if one should play it or not. There can be wide differences in content and effect etc as there is with movies. Some I would simply not play.

In any case–

Certainly the producers of certain video games need to change what they produce…(I do not have a first hand knowledge of particular current games to comment necessarily on particular ones)
