Hi,
I just wanted to make a comment that social justice is impossible without virtue and grace. I know there are terms out there in theology like economy of salvation, economy of grace, and divine economy. I don’t want to coin esoteric terms but just try to introduce for thought and prayer the idea of virtue economics or economy of virtue, which came to mind as I was praying a Rosary with a petition regarding some political and economic and social issues in the United States and the world. I found it interesting to notice that the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates seem to be exclusively on money and monetary matters, not exactly what is important, but how to pay for it.
I joked to a friend “There is nothing good to give you, but we will make sure it gets paid for!”
In addition to any thoughts on virtue in political, economic, and work life, and a possible “stimulus” for theologians, philosophers, economists, politicians, teachers, workers and others to consider the role of virtue in economic activity and organization. We are so focused on how to organize bureucratic laws and money systems of distribution and direction and everything, and barely anyone talks about virtue. I would like to ask for prayers in addition to any discussion and possible evangelization and study in virtue and grace providing virtue. But prayers and any thoughts. But I just kind of coined a silly term like virtue economics or economy of virtue to give a linguistic handle on the idea. I don’t expect it to stick or anything. Just want to get virtue introduced into the economic and political principles in people’s minds and activity especially as regards work and family and life in general, and not so much focus on bureacracy and money and government structures. But I am in a process of conversion in political thinking, so what I say here is not solid in stone. I just wanted to throw it out there for discussion and prayer. Any books or authors or intellectuals delving into this subject?
God bless you all and thanks for any prayers or thoughts
