Virtues and the Rosary: Definitive List

I’ve been really helped by the booklets that give a virtue for each Mystery of the Rosary, for example, the virtue of faith for Our Lord’s Resurrection. These help me to link the Mysteries to my life. For each Hail Mary I pray for one person to grow in the respective virtue. This is a great form of intercession because I know for sure that God wants to answer these prayers, whereas, for example, if I asked for someone to get better, God may be allowing that person to remain ill so that they can offer it up for their own and others’ sanctification.

My problem is that the different booklets seem to have different lists of virtues from each other. :confused: Please can anyone suggest a definitive list? :o

There is no definitive list. The Rosary is primarily a prayer of meditation, a very personal, individual thing, where you ponder what is happening in the Mysteries and relate them to your own life. Any lists you may have come across are the fruit of someone else’s meditation. Each of us needs to make the Rosary our own. If the Rosary helps you grow in virtue, that’s great. The “definitive” list should be whatever virtues God suggests to you as you pray. It may be different every time you pray it, or it may be the same if there are certain virtues you know you need to work on.

The Rosary is a private devotion, so there is no ‘definitive’ way to say it or list of virtues attached to it.
 
There is a most excellent book on these topics by Kevin Orlin Johnson, PhD entitled Rosary: Meditations, Mysteries and the Telling of the Beads 2003

Another good book is by Father Benedict Groeschel called The Rosary: Chain of Hope.
It contains Meditations on the Mysteries of the Rosary.
