Is it okay for Catholic women to wear bralettes (provided they don’t wear them as a shirt) if the straps will be visible?

Are you basically covered?
Is the place you’re wearing them okay for showing a strap? Example: Club okay, casual party with friends okay, around your house okay, church not okay, office not okay.

Use some common sense…

What do you mean? Wearing them under your clothes?

Bra straps showing are usually more tacky than immodest imo, try to avoid that.

As a 52 year old man:
I wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference if you showed me a bralette and a bra. (even though I hear my daughters talking about them)

I probably wouldn’t notice how you were wearing it, to be honest. To me, it’s all a visual mish-mash of fashion. 😁

For the record, a “bralette” is an unstructured bra, kindof what we old timers would call a “training bra” but worn by grown women.

I often use a bralette over a bra to cover my straps so that where the bralette shows it looks intentional. The one I use isn’t particularly see-through. Works great for making open back shirts or dresses more modest.

So, I’d say that whether or not it is immodest depends upon how it is made and how you are using it.

Don’t feel bad, I have no idea what a “bralette” is either.

Edited to add, I just looked at some pictures and it looks like the thing I bought a bunch of 15 years ago that was called a “soft bra” or a “sleep bra”, in other words a comfy stretch cupless bra generally worn by women with little busts as it doesn’t support large ones.

Yep. It is an unstructured bra.

There is no way that I can wear one without support, so I usually wear one over a bra much like one might use a camisole.

It is a bra, only that as somebody said it has a wider band like sports bra and lightweight. Sometimes straps which are very thin , are intertwined at the back. So if you are wearing any sort of a bit lower back tank top or something in summer, it doesn t look as bulky as a sports bra.
I have somehow overcome this strap showing in summer issue because straps come also thin and come in colours sometimes ( as they started coming transparent many years ago )so if it shows or happens to show in an informal setting or at home( also as somebody has posted )it doesn t really look tacky.
Particularly if you live somewhere where Summers reach very high temperatures and suffers hot weather.
Inmodest, I do not see how showing any strap can be honestly.

It depends on the bralette, the shirt and how much the bralette is revealing.

With regard to straps showing, I’ll venture that the modern day bra/bralette is designed with an eye toward fashion that its utilitarian ancestors didn’t benefit from. Further, I don’t think people refer to ladies’ undergarments as “foundation garments” very often anymore, preferring not to perpetuate the memory of those old timey items made of tent canvas and spring steel.

When your underwear is showing, either:
a) you are a male US naval officer in dress khaki, in which case your t-shirt is supposed to show, or
b) you look tacky

(but I think that uniform was suppressed some years ago anyway. And it was tacky, just by the Navy rather than the individual,.)

So much for my Coleman stock . . . 😜:roll_eyes:

Not necessarily immodest. Sloppy and tacky though? Definitely.
