Some point in your life you will see,or experiance,an angel,or a
unexplainable,or something fantastic.It will be something thatll blow your socks off.You wont be able explain it.If you tried everyone would think A.your fibbing B.hoax C overimagination
D.Its some natual phonomia E.your insane Thats human nature
Some secerts between you and God are best kept that way.
Meek shall inhert the earth.Like Moses,John the babtist,even like
Angels,talking donkeys? Paul hearing voices,Even Christ walk around complete many miricles,as did Elishia.Yet man choices
was the above a,b,c,d,e.Nothings Changed in all this time.My question to all have you ever had something fantastic,unbeliviable,
happen that fits into what we call today paranormal,or mircale,a vision.That to you really did happen,and you dont understand it
or know what to do?
 
the classic advice in Christian spiritual direction is to ignore any phenomena or experience which seems super-natural or para-normal. If it is of God and therefore necessary for your spiritual growth it will come again and with discernment you will come to understand it. If it is of the evil one (far more likely if it was disturbing) give it no credence whatever because it comes from the father of lies. Regard it as no more than bad pizza before bedtime or a bad made-for-TV movie. It should not be discussed with anyone, except one’s confessor or spiritual director.
 
I have had horrific dreams like this nearly every night for years. I wake up panicky, out of breath, and more often than not crying my eyes out.
 
I definitely believe that some people are chosen by God to have visions and/or prophetic dreams. But I also believe that a kind and merciful God prepares this person ahead of time. We need only to read the lives of the saints to see plenty of “out of the ordinary” phenomena happening.

However, I also believe the gift of discernment has to come into play. For example, the previous poster mentioned panic attacks with shortness of breath in the middle of the night – that seems like a fear tactic of the devil.

And, we don’t help ourselves get closer to God by viewing horror-filled and violent movies. Particularly movies that portray the grotesqueness of the underworld. These images are burned into our subconscious and seem to “re-appear” at times we least expect or would like.

Remember the old adage: Garbage In, Garbage Out.

If you think on things of beauty, as the Scriptures define beauty, then it is much easier to sleep at night.

And yes, to answer your original question, I’ve had several profound spiritual experience – I don’t know that this Forum would allow us to discuss such experiences though. As far as I’ve understood, they are deemed “private revelations.”
 
I’m 62 years old and it hasn’t happened to me yet. I just say my Complin prayers and fall asleep. Well, after a heavy petting session with the cats.:rolleyes:

On a daily basis, I ask Saint Michael the Archangel to keep my apartment under his protection. I place no faith whatsoever in any sort of alledged dream interpretations. After a good night’s sleep, I wake up refreshed and thanking God. And petting the cats, of course
 
When my faith first truly came alive, I had a most beautiful experience, and I can say with great certainty that there was nothing evil or misguiding about it. I have also had a very moving experience of the presence of Christ at Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.

As for negative experiences, on the first night of a weekend silent retreat, I had a terrible dream featuring a frightening, wolf-like beast, from which I awoke with a scream. I told the priest about it the next morning. That retreat was very life changing for me. In a good way! 🙂

If you have really horrifying nightmares all the time, and have for years, you probably ought to talk to somebody who’s a medical or psychological specialist. If they are annoying you that much, it’s probably time to do something about them. Also, I wouldn’t assume that they are caused by something spiritual, if I were you (though of course one can’t rule that out). Something is clearly bothering you, and you should find out what – no matter whether it’s sleep apnea, indigestion, or something that happened in your past.

On the bright side, they do say that people who have nightmares all the time are often very well balanced people. They work off a lot of their worries at night, whereas the rest of us carry them around during the day. 🙂
 
I think the worst thing you can do to a vision is ignore it. You should test it. If it purtains to the bible and church teachings and if its overall meaning is LOVE, then it should be a marker in your life because if God did truly send you a beautiful experience and you ignore it, you could be ignoring God and the Holy Spirit. A lot of the saints have had visions and mystical experiences and they didn’t ignore them like Saul who became Apostle Paul and many others. I blieve God comes to you the way you come to other people.

When I was 9, after beinng paralyzed. I was at home and I woke up in the middle of the night and a “invisible man” stood at my foot of my bed and calmly repeated" Don’t worry. Everything will be okay." 10-15 times.
It was not until I was 15 that I really put 2 and 2 together and what that alleged vision of an angel, or spirit or man could have meant for me long term…
Some people are spooked, others swear its my guardian angel. God knows!
