My best friend’s husband un expectedly died Friday.

I went and stayed with her Saturday and Sunday.

I just saw that the visitation will be tomorrow evening (Tuesday),
the funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00,
and the graveside service will be following the funeral.

We have been best friends for 40 years, since we were almost 2 years old.
Should I go to all three things Tuesday and Wednesday?

I will need to travel in a bit, about an hour and a half each way, and make arrangements for my younger daughter.

Please any advice, I guess I am fortunate to not have attended many funerals ever, last one may have been over 10 years ago, so I am just not sure.

Thanks

If you are really close, I’d say yes to support your best friend. If it is absolutely not possible, then let her know and attend the funeral and graveside service, which is usually immediately following the funeral, unless otherwise stated.

Three of my grandparents had two days of visitation (evening, and then following day afternoon and evening) and then the funeral and burial the third day. It was more of a local custom, but completely exhausting. With my 3 uncles and an aunt who all passed in the past 4 years (all in their 50s from cancer), we had an afternoon/evening visitation and then the funeral/burial the next day. A lot of the close friends came to both.

Where I live though, the custom is an hour or two prior to the funeral and then the funeral and sometimes burial.

Do what you can and please accept my condolences.

thanks

I spoke with my parents, and they will be going tomorrow to the visitation, they live minutes from there. They cannot go Wednesday, but I will be able to take my daughter to my MIL on the day of the funeral and graveside service, and stay into the evening if my friend wishes, then my daughter and I will head back home that evening.

She has so much going on now I cannot even imagine, and a long road ahead of her.
I am so glad I was able to be with her this past weekend.

Glad it all worked out and you can be there to support your friends.

Praying for your friend…I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for her.
