I’m currently in the process of converting to Catholicism. I’m attending a primarily Novus Ordo Latin rite parish, but I want to experience the liturgical fullness of the Universal Church. I feel so honored to live in a Diocese that has a rich liturgical expression - in our small southern community we have a Ruthenian rite parish, a Maronite rite parish, a strong TLM community, and very good (and. . .very. . .um. . .modern) Novus Ordo parishes. So, I branched out and visited the Maronite rite church today.

It was absolutely beautiful! I felt very welcome, and while I was obviously a visiting Latin rite woman, I didn’t feel out of place. The chants were chill-inducing. The priest’s homily was inspiring. It was a great experience, and I’m interested in learning more about the rite. Just wanted to share my experience with y’all.

I visited a Maronite parish for liturgy once, and what I really loved was the consecration! The chant was beautiful, and to know I was hearing an ancient language that our Lord himself spoke was awe inspiring. I recommend anyone who’s interested in hearing it to go to YouTube and search for “Maronite Consecration”, and listen to the first link (it should be priests standing behind a long altar with cedars stiched on the altar cloth, unforunately I can’t access the site at work to be sure). I’d love to hear people’s thoughts that have never heard it!
