Visiting a radically "progressive" Protestant church

BTW I started RCIA and when I went to Mass yesterday the priest blessed my Rosary!

The minister at that church truly believed he was Baptist. He just took Baptist off the church sign to stop making people think he was a normal/regular Baptist.

I think I should ask the teacher to take use to a more orthodox church and synagogue. If not, I may start a club that does not oppose my own faith. I don’t have a problem with respectfully hearing another persons beliefs, but these radical beliefs are the only ones we hear. Not once have we truly talked about the Catholic position or the Muslim beliefs on homosexuality.

=Lead Me Home;6248085]The leader of my Religious Pluralism group at school has arranged for us to visit a Re-constructionist Synagogue and a Baptist Church that “marry” homosexual couples. :signofcross:Christe Eleison:signofcross:
I have decided to go since it is a mandatory event and I want to be respectful enough to visit as I would expect a radical protestant to visit a Catholic Church. I am not sure if it would be worth debating or challenging the minister/rabbi. I have to pray for them of course. I would like to sprinkle Holy Water on these places, however I can’t do this discretely in a group.
There are Biblical passages that clearly condemn homosexuality, however they won’t listen. They have lied to themselves so that they believe those passaages are not important because Paul wrote them. I am going to be on of the few, including my one Catholic friend and one Muslim friend in my group who see homosexuality as a sin.
***Here my friend is what you should do.
  1. Don’t offer your opinion***
  2. IF ASKED [and only if asked] tell them you are a practicing Catholic who following the lead of Jesus holds that marriage is between one man and one women for life.
  3. Then hush up unless asked to explain.
  4. IF,again and only if your askd to explain, tell them marriage has two functions. The begetting and raising of children and the Unitive function [what I call marriage cement:)] and the two purposes cannot be seperated. These positions have been constantly and consistantly held for some 2000 years by the CC. They are based on God’s Moral law.
Be sure to pray an attend daily Mass if posible before going.

Love and prayers,

Pat

Before I went I prayed to God to be with me, for I was entering the devil’s territory. I prayed to St. Michael the Archangel as well.

I actually did not tell the minister or rabbi that I was Catholic. I mentioned Catholicism, but did not go into detail. On of the men who was in a homosexual relationship was born Catholic, but not practicing. I asked him if he grew up in an observant household.

Later on I was talking to a friend and she helped me understand (not accept) these perspectives. If you read the Bible only as a book and gave no attention to tradition or faith, you could come up with these same conclusions.

It is a sin, but so are a lot of other things…and remember Jesus came and spent a lot of time with sinners, and scolded the religious ones of His day who despised those sinners. Please, lets show love and concern, while retaining biblical doctrine, and possibly WIN some of them:thumbsup:
