My wife and I love our parish. Archimandrite Joseph and Archimandrite Charles are both great priests and were a great source of comfort for us when our daughter was in the hospital. The parishioners at Transfiguration are also very welcoming and loving. I don’t think we could’ve asked for a better parish, especially since we moved here from out of town and know almost no one here.
That’s awesome! The Church is so beautiful!!! I’ve started learning about the Eastern Churches (Orthodox and Catholic) because of a seminar that Archimandrite Joseph gave at my parish, St. Leo’s. And, I learned from my neighbors who went to Epiphany. I highly suggest to the OP to check out Transfiguration’s and Epiphany’s annual Church festivals in September. They usually have church tours and all sorts of Icons, books, etc. for sale. Thanks for sharing Phillip Rolfes:D

Do you go to St. Leo’s in Fairfax? I work within walking distance from there at Eastern Christian Publications!👍

yes, I do! It’s been my parish for 27+years of my life! I also went to school there from K-8:thumbsup:
I always knew Eastern Christian Publications was nearby, but where?
In Christ, Kiechlin:confused:

To the OP
I live in the area and am a parishioner at Holy Transfiguration in McLean. I also know Epiphany of Our Lord in Annandale quite well and work for one of the parishioners there. Send me an e-mail. I’d be more than happy to take you around Transfiguration and/or Epiphany and to guide you through the Divine Liturgy.

By the way, I’m currently a Latin Catholic, but my wife and I have been exclusively attending Byzantine churches for a couple of years now and are in the process of changing our canonical status over the the Melkites.
Thank you very much for the offer. I will definitely take you up on the offer. I will send you a PM soon!

If you’re interested in learning more about Eastern Catholic and Orthodox theology in general you might consider attending one or a handful of the lectures that Metropolitan Kallistos Ware will be giving this coming month. I recently started a new thread which includes the Metropolitan’s schedule.

I have a number of Eastern Christian Publications materials I got at the Orientale Lumen Conference in San Diego 2 years ago. One for children about the major Feast Days I use all the time, with adults. 👍

Jealous me! FYI to others, some of Metropolitan Kallistos Ware’s talks are available to view on the Orientale Lumen TeleVision site.

5Loaves, were you at OLXI on icons, or OLXII on the feasts of the Church? If you were at OLXII, I edited the videos for the plenaries and liturgies at that conference! Professor Richard Schneider was one of the speakers at both of those conferences, I believe. He’s professor of “iconology” at St. Vlad’s in New York. We have an Adult Enrichment Series by him on the Great Feasts of the Church that will be out probably some time next month (once I finish editing the concluding lecture). As I was the one who filmed and edited it I can with full confidence say that I highly recommend it! He does a great job tieing all the feasts together and revealing their eschatological significance.

As well as being on oltv.tv andgoogle, we’re also on youtube.com! Check out our stuff. As a Roman Catholic who has been on a journey to the East for the past couple of years, these videos have helped me a great deal in discovering the rich history, theology and spirituality of the Byzantine East.👍

OLXII – Feast Days of the Eastern Church. Yes, Professor Richard Schneider was one of the presenters. The conference was a turning point in my life. I wish I could afford to attend again, especially in Constantinople! But if I could only ever just go to one then Feast Days of the Eastern Church was surely the perfect one. 🙂 The week prior to the Conference I happened to take a class on Holy Icons at Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology with Fr. Brendan McAnerney, OP which led beautifully into the OL Conference.

We’ve been talking about beginning to “tour” the Holy Icons in my church, each of us taking responsibility for one or more to describe to the rest of us. I’m glad to be reminded of Professor Schneider. I’ll suggest we look at his lecture on OLTV as part of our preparation.
