Harry’s Visitation 22 - 29 September 2007

I am back from my one week vacation to visit my Mother in Kirkland, Washington. As I mentioned previously, she is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, although still able to live by herself at home. My Sister lives 5 minutes away from her, and keeps an eye on her.

We had planned to do a lot on my visit. My Sister picked me up at the airport on Saturday afternoon. As as we were driving home, her cell phone rang, and it turned out her husband was having chest pains. So she dropped me off at Mother’s home, and drove her husband to the VA Hospital.

I was still able to go to Church, to AA, and walking with Mother in the local park. Mother may be 83 years old, but she still does her 3 mile walk every day the weather is reasonable. Without my expensive Z-coil shoes and orthotics, I would be unable to keep up with her.

Keeping to my 1221 fast was no problem, although it was hard to convince Mother that my being hungry some of the time did not mean I was malnourishhed, starving, weak, or debilitated. Once a Mother, always a Mother.

My Brother-in-law came home Tuesday, and by Friday seemed to have a bad cold he picked up from the VA Hospital. It is now Saturday night as I type this, and I seem to have picked up cold (or whatever). 😦

For those wondering, I had an AA friend take care of my cats whilst I was away.

Monday I return to work, to help pay for this vacation. Money well spent.👍

Glad your visit went well.🙂 Your mother is one fiesty lady! Hoping that your brother in law does ok. Bad thing about vacations, eventually you have to come home to the real world.😦
